Keep losing playlists and ratings
Hi, I am a newbie to the iPod realm. I am running Windows XP. Okay, I recently added on an external hard drive to contain my music collection. I went through the procedures noted here on consolidating the hard drive, etc. However, every so often I will get this weird error when I start up iTunes that says the itunes library file or xml file is corrupt. I then say okay and it starts searching for a library because it says the connection or whatever to the original library has changed. This is not true. When this happens I show a blank library with none of my playlists. I then have to go to Add Folder and change the iTunes Music Folder back to my external hard drive. It wasn't so annoying before I had created playlists or rated songs, but now it's ticking me off. It drops all my playlists and ratings.
The only thing I can think of is that I left the main .xml and .itl files on the C Drive in the original folder. The directions on moving my library to the external drive said NOT to delete those files, so I left them as is.
Any help here would be appreciated.
Thanks so much.

# 1 Re: Keep losing playlists and ratings
I found that i Tunes kept loosing the links to all my songs after i also moved my collection to an external hard drive.
The only thing i could think was happening was that i clikced on iTunes before i had turned my hard drive on.
Not normally a problem when i used Windows Media player as a restart of this software finds the links again. But i tunes doesn't, once it looses the links all the songs have to be inported.
unless of course i'm missing something and there is a way to load the links back in again?
