I never thought it would come to this. PSP v. iPod dilemma
I know that there have been a few threads in the Lounge about this, but I figured that this is more individualistic and merited a thread. So please feel free to input.
I'm getting a present tomorrow. The present-giver essentially told me that I can pick what I want, as long as its below US$350. So, essentially, I've narrowed down the gift that I want to either a
(a) iPod Photo 30GB
or
(b) Sony PSP with a few games and UMD movies
It's come to a point therein, where I really can't make up my mind. The presentgiver says that regardless of whatever I pick, he would like my iPod Mini (which I currently have and am willing to give to him). So if I pick the iPod Photo, I get nice color but no games. If I pick the PSP, I get about everything but am however being put in the really awkward position, of being an Appleholic without an iPod (which I really want) or getting a PSP (and having to spend more money on memory and #### to put music).
The thing about it is this. I love music and I love owning an iPod. I'm not exactly, a big gaming fan, but I DO game to a certain extent and I really like the sleek look and feel of the Sony PSP.
So I could either get a:
(a) Sony PSP+Games+UMD Movies
(b) iPod Photo 30GB
(c) Sony PSP+Games+UMD Movies and (after a few months saving on my own) a 1GB Shuffle.
Do input.

Depends on what you want. If you want a portable game system, go with the psp. If you want an iPod or an mp3 player, go for the photo.

Go for the PSP now, and then later on buy a 1GB shuffle.

I really wish it were as simple as that :(

Don't we all... If you have an iPod now, go for the PSP. That always works.

Haha. I have to give my Mini to the presentgiver though :(

Oh. Well I can't think of anything else. I would go for the iPod, but that is just me. Besides, with the PSP you have to pay for whatever you do on it (and the games are expensive too!). iPod, you don't.

iPod iPod iPod. PSP does not have enough decent games to warrent its purchase over a new iPod. Get the iPod...the PSP will wear off eventually...

I was going to say PSP, since you have and love an iPod already, but then I read about yer mini.
Get the photo.

If you read one of the posts, then you will see that he has to give the mini to the gift giver.

Go for the iPod.
Hold off on the PSP...there will be a pricedrop someday...

I say get the Photo over the PSP...the PSP is great, but once you're bored of the games, unless you buy at least a 1GB Memory Stick, you're gonna regret it. In every day life, an iPod is more practical than a PSP. Will you be using your PSP in a crowded subway? Or in class trying not to get caught by your teacher? Didn't think so, so stick with the iPod and wait for a PSP price drop...then you'll eventually have both. To me, an iPod is more of a "necessity" than a PSP.

I would go for an iPod. Games are essentially part of this chapter of your life, music will stay with you forever.
You have all the infastructure as it were, to make the most of the photo so go with that.

Yes I know. And then my 30GB will kick your 20's arse..:p Been 10months.
# 17 Re: I never thought it would come to this. PSP v. iPod dilemma
Whatt? Get the PSP! Sure, the 1 gb memory stick and then a game or two will set you way over 350, but it's well worth it. As for the ipod photo, music was meant to be listened to. You don't need a fancy color screen if you want music. The color screen will only detract from the experience.

I got an iPod Photo 30GB with 2 years Applecare (special offer) at US$350 :D
# 19 Re: I never thought it would come to this. PSP v. iPod dilemma
unless you are interested in many of the PSP's games, then go with the iPod Photo. go to www.gamespot.com, where they have plenty of coverage on many new PSP games are going to be released in the future (E3 just happened, which happens to be the biggest gaming ever in the video game industry, so there is more than enough information on new games).
other than games, the only other reason to buy a PSP are for the UMD movies and downloaded movies that you can load to your memory stick. i don't find the video playback that interesting though, since i doubt that will ever be a time when someone is THAT bored and without a TV. plus, music should be enough for someone to not be bored.
