well, i was watching the price is right this morning, (not sure if a re-run or the first showing), however for the little mini bid off that the four contestents try and get on stage with, had an iPod u2 edition as the bidding item.
I saw it and was like damn, i wish i was on the show i just like everyone else knows it sels for US349 and was thrilled. However was wronged when the actual retail price was 690!!!!!
WTF?
well did anyone else see it? who would pay that much, and where would you even buy one for that much?
i know it is in calif, but 349 online is 349 anywhere.

Well I don't ever remember the U2 being that high in price. If I was on that show and didn't win based on their price I would be complaining to the show.

The Price Is Right often exaggerates their prices to make it more "challenging" for their contestants. This is nothing new...

email them. i am curious, as that is more than just an inflation. the item only had one price and has never fluctuated.

chuckley gave the pounds difference ... and here is the Aussie difference.
Real price $520 (which was about what they sold for but $499 now)
Their price $920 .. which is nearly double.
That's not inflation .. it's highway robbery in whatever currency you work it out in :D

I think your confuseing the 'Retail Price' with the 'Manufacturers Standerd Retail Price' which is much higher. Almost nothing sells for the full MSRP. + California Sales Tax. Which one must understand inoder to place that 'Golden' $100.00(USD) Bid on the 'Price Is Right'.
It's still great to see a great person like Bob Barker is still working though!

yes, it is called Plinko, and yes, TPiR does inflate the prices, i think its so no one ''studies'' the prices, like Tylenol for 13 dollars, its about 5 bucks here, though, I don't think they inflate car prices.

Nope. MSRP for the U2 iPod is $349 US (and we still accept US currency here in the People's Republic of California).
The price is indeed wrong. Someone oughtta call their attorney...

I agree game shows do show the FULL RRP on their items.
But in the case of the ipod .. my understanding is .. they sold at the full RRP .. not any discounts were given .. well not in Australia anyway.
I can understand if they were giving away a dinner set by Doulton RRP $1000 ... but in the shops they sell it at discount for $700 .. so the game show says the RRP as $1000... that's OK.
But to my best knowledge the RRP of the ipod .. was the retail price as well as the selling price. No difference as no-one sold under or at discount until Apple lowered the prices themselves.

According to the Website www.golden-road.net the 'Bid' was for 2x U2 Edittion iPod's $349.00(USD) x2 is $698.00(USD), and thuss the winninig bid...
