music school advice

hey guys, im looking at some music schools these days for guitar, and a lot of people told me to go to the musicians institute, it seems like a pretty cool place from what i've read so far, im wondering though if anyone here has gone there or knows some more about it, thanks!

haha uhhh... not to my knowledge haha... but i did want to go somewhere where i could meet some good players and hopefully make some really good industry contacts, i've heard MI is great for that...

I assume you're asking about undergraduate performance studies. For jazz there's no better school than Berklee. For classical guitar: Peabody, Eastman, & the San Francisco Conservatory. The Manhattan Music School & USC are reasonably strong in both.

well, those are all good schools i know, but the reason i liked the idea of going to MI is because there you only study music, no general studies or outside liberal arts courses... it would be nice to be able to focus 100% on music since thats what i want to do...

Berklee, Peabody, Eastman, & SF Conservatory are all dedicated music schools. Of course, they are all tops and you have to be very good and quite serious to get in.

yeah, i know those are all great, im just not sure i want to be a part of anything quite so traditional... if that makes sense? MI is really well known for their modern guitar program...a lot of big names have come outta there..
