My Gmail Invites Got Topped Off. Did Yours??
I had only used up 5 Gmail invites. But just recently while checking my emails I noticed that they had been filled back up to 50.
Not that I care but I am just curious if this happened to anyone else (it probably did) and maybe someone knows why.

yes, gmail keeps topping everyone off at 50. they really want to get people into gmail. i guess the only reason that they dont just allow people to go to their site and sign up for an account is that they dont want alot of spammers and people who wouldn't use the gmail account to dive in and hog up GB's of their space.

This has been happening for a while now. Even if you use all 50, you get topped up next day...

I don't have a GMail account, and don't plan on getting one. I have an SBCGlobal.net account that comes with my DSL. It has 250MB of space and soon to have 1GB. I think that is good enough for me.

Cool. Um, thanks for sharing.
BTW, what happens to that account if you switch ISPs?

your sbcglobal account should have 2 gigs of storage........ unless you're not the primary account.

They stay the same. As long as I log onto my same account that I have, the amount of space will remain. I don't intend on applying to a different ISP anyway.
Also, no, I am not the primary account. No one uses that account in my household. It is just a guest account. Don't ask me why, we just do.

I guess I'm just not the tinfoil hat type, but I'm not especially worried about the gmail privacy issues, etc. Why? Because I don't use that account for anything particularly important and certainly nothing private.
Frankly, if people are worried about security/privacy they should use a private (not free) email account and should encrypt their email. If you're still worried beyond that then just don't use email for any private information at all.
The fact is that if you send any non-encrypted email, a copy of that email and all its contents could potentially remain on any mail server used in sending/routing said email. While the information isn't completely open and most public servers have WAY too much traffic to make saving email that comes through, it is a possibility. At least if it's encrypted it's far less likely that it will be accessable to prying eyes/scripts, etc.
As far as privacy goes I'm much more worried about databases at universities, credit agencies, etc. being broken into (which is happening with increasing regularity unfortunately). At least emails and the account don't have my social security, date of birth, etc.

You know what, I agree with you on every issue you said. The fact that the email that isn't encryted is very low in security. The fact that people are breaking into the databases and stealing all of the information that you once had in your account. I also just hate the fact that people would even think of doing that.
