Packaging is SO symbolism for next gen iPod
Think about it, they (Apple) have done it before... In a way.
The iPod 4G, had color silhouettes, with color everywhere...what came out months later? A color iPod (iPod photo).
The 3G box was just plain white and black, not alluding to much with the next generations.
The change just made to the 20 gig box is now plain silver and black... possibly alluding to what may be a plain silver iPod to come? It's already been speculated on thinksecret.com.
I think there is alot of hidden foreshadowing Apple leaves for us.

I don't think you can draw this conclusion from the box. It really only happened once: color box then color iPod, pretty tought to draw a conclusion from that. Also, there is alot of recognition, thus equity in the white of iPods. But to then, it may be too much, and all silver would be neat for a more premium line. Reference iBook vs Powerebook.

I don't think iPod could stand to lose it's "prim whiteness". After all, what partly made the iPod so famous and popular is it's extremely clever design, and included in that is the white colour. A silver iPod might be a good idea for a special iPod, like the U2 iPod, but definatly not as a main one.

There have been a rumors about a silver 5th Gen iPod...I don't mind between white and silver as long as the traditional Apple design still remains as good as ever.

This is a pretty good hunch on what may just happen to the next generation of the iPod. I don't think that it would be true though. I do wonder though if the next generation of iPods are going to come in different colors. That would be kind of neat.

The regular iPod's will never come in different colors. I do believe a "Powermac" silver would be an idea for the new iPod. I wouldn't mind it, I am ready for a change in design/color. Something nice, pristine, elegant would be key in continuing its legacy. And I hardly believe it would be a special edition.
