Going silicone? Go Power Support! (user review)
So, my silicon case from Power Support arrived today. I am very, very pleased and impressed.
All the holes are covered, even the headphone port when your headphones are plugged in. There are two little holes for the insertion of a Power Support wrist strap. The inclusion of a lanyard cap cover and a plastic clip that fits around the body of the covered Shuffle is a wonderful pack-in.
First impression? It's a very *soft* rubbery object, the texture being unlike what I expected (condom rubber?), and the back Power Ring really works. I was so skeptical that it would turn my shuffle off again, but it didn't. Seeing is believing, folks.
You have attachment options: original lanyard, provided clip, or provided wrist strap. I prefer the wrist strap, in part because I get to advertise Power Support, and in part because it's dangly, and I prefer that to stuck-on-me clips or strangle-me lanyards.
It's a good deal. I paid $30, shipping included. I like it. I'm tempted to chuck it at the floor and see if it bounces because the edges are so thick from the Shuffle's edges.

How is the clip? The clip is very important for my indended usage. Does it stay on? Is the tension sufficient to securely clip to a wide range of materials? Would you feel comfortable using the clip during rigorous exercise?
Thanks!

Since I'm not really experienced with the activity of vigorous exercising, I'm not sure about that, but here's my opinion on the clip:
It doesn't have a pivot mechanism or spring. It's just a piece of barely flexible plastic that you can wedge fabric or a strap underneath. I would NOT feel comfortable depending on the clip to keep the shuffle in place on any kind of fabric. It puts the center of gravity for the shuffle off balance, too, meaning that it will tilt forward of its own weight.
In a pants pocket, if the shuffle was in the pocket and the clip was on the outside holding on to the edge of the pocket, that may be okay.
It is not forceful enough to attach the shuffle to a t-shirt or gym shorts of its own force.
The new Tunewear Aluminum Clip for the shuffle looks like a better clip, by far, because of the spring. No case for that one, though. Check it out -- featured on the front page.

Thanks for the info.
Too bad, it sounds like the case itself is top notch. I don't think anybody has built a killer case-clip combo yet. Unfortunately, the aluminum clip you mentioned doesn't offer a lot of protection and the fine print indicates that you basically tape your existing USB cap to the clip in order to hold everything together. It looks like an aluminum version of the rip-off shuffle clip that a few of us got burned by.
Guess I'll have to keep looking...

the dlo arband and case is a good case/clip combo. It has a very nice spring loaded clip

The review of the Power Support shield said that the headphone port might not work with oversized headphones. I use Ultimate Ears UE5c (they ROCK!) with a right-angle headphone connector. Do you think they might work or should I forget about the Power Support? (I don't want to get a headphone extender --the cord is already long as it is!)

You have options with the Power Support case. The layer of silicone around the headphone opening is thin, so if you connect your headphones, it should squish down the thin layer of silicone with no problem.
If you find that this causes the headphones to pop out (which I think, if the connection is strong, is very unlikely), you could always make a north-south-east-west set of four snips, which would further increase the flexibility of the membrane around the headphone opening.
Give it a go. I had no problems with mine.

Thanks Shuffinator -- I was thinking that I might be able to just cut the opening someway or another. Sounds like that might work. I'm thinking about the Power Support just to give me the option of dropping the Shuffle into the pocket of my shorts for workouts without fear of sweat damage. But I may also just stick with the Super Clip. We'll see!

Shuffinator -- You were right! the Power Support case is awesome, and the good news is that it works just fine with my "oversized" headphone jack for the Ultimate Ears UE5c. It's a nice snug fit for the headphone jack, with no chance of it falling out, and no need to modify the case.
Just the ticket for a reasonably sweat-proof case to go in my shorts pocket while running-- without the need for an extra headphone dongle!
I do love the divine simplicity of xtreme mac's super clip but I was worried about sweat damage in my pocket. This should work fine!
BTW I think the clip would be fine for running, although I prefer the horizontal orientation of the Superclip. I'll take this for a run tomorrow and we'll see how it performs!
