iTunes Playlist - Help With Filenames Please

Hi there.
When I put my songs in the library, it comes up with these messed up titles. How can I get them to go onto the list exactly as they're labelled? Surely I don't have to edit the tags on over 1,000 mp3s.
Thanks a lot!

AFAIK you can't have Itunes display the name and not the tag but maybe somebody knows a workaround? Itunes and the iPod go by the tag and not the title. The problem is whoever actually ripped the songs in the first place didn't do it correctly.

The good news is that if you were diligent in naming the songs, artist - album - track # - track name, almost any tagger can rewrite the tag based on the filename and then they will display correctly.

*cries*

These are mp3s that I've downloaded over the course of six years, lol. They're named immaculately but as far as tags are concerned...

*cries some more*

Thanks for your reply. =)

Like I said if you did a good job naming them then it won't be so bad. Just download any mp3 tagger and you shold be able to zip right through them. :)

Sorry to be a pain but could you please recommend one? What are the advantages of an mp3 tagger from just renaming it on Winamp? There's over 1,000 to rename, lol. I might work on them progressively.

Well winamp may be fine but many people prefer a seperate dedicated app like mp3tag http://www.mp3tag.de/en/screenshots.html . They are usually more full featured etc then what all in one media players offer. Of course that's all up to interpretation but suffice to say in your case I think you need one.

See at the bottom of that page on the left? That's what you want, "Filename - Tag". Set it up how you want it and do a few test taggings and then when you have it setup right do a mass tagging. Btw DON"T do your whole collection at once. Not only may it hang the tagger but if something goes wrong...100 or so at once is the max I'd do. Good luck. I have to watch a movie now so if you have any other questions it will have to wait till tomorrow.
