Volume Adjustment for iTunes Options
I have a very basic question. Is the volume adjustment in the options a volume adjuster or a normaliser. I'd like to know because I tend to highlight all my songs & apple + i keys & adjust to 100%. I was under the impression this is a normaliser; ie: takes the sound to the maximum level of each individual song without clipping/distorting.
If I am wrong then I've been doing the wrong thing. If it is a purely a volume adjuster then I greatly risk over-doing it so to speak. Can someone please advise? I use mostly Mac OSX (10.3.9) & the most recent iTunes version. And lots of music (over 5 thou) lol:D
(If I've been doing the wrong thing then is what I've done undoable or might I have already damaged some songs. I'd have thought the vol adjustment is a psuedo type thing where it is stored like the id3 tag & not affect the actual audio file.)

It is a volume adjuster, not a normalizer. But don't worry. You can fix all songs at once by select all from the Edit menu, then go apple + I. This will bring up a window where you can adjust all songs at once. It's just a tag, ie it doesn't affect the song file but attaches to the song for iTunes only.
HTH.

Thank you for your very accurate & precise answer. If I could ask one more question, does it mean that if I continue my technique then the volume of those already adjusted will continue to increase; ie: If some have already been adjusted to 100%, will selecting all songs & adjusting to 100% affect only the new ones recently added or also affect the older ones by increasing their volume even further?
