downloaded updater and itunes still wont recognize ipod!

I am leaving on a trip tomorrow and I NEED my ipod. However, itunes is not recognizing my ipod. All of my music was erased and i downloaded the updater in hopes that the updater would enabe itunes to recognize my ipod again. But, this did not work. What can i do? I know people use winamp or realplayer instead of itunes to transfer music...how does that work? ANy help would be greatly appreciated. I cant be travelling for 2 weeks without and IPOD

does your computer recognize the ipod? Have you tried a simple reset of the ipod? Do you get any error messages?moe_4eva at 2007-11-15 13:29:20 >

the computer recognizes that it is there, but itunes doesnt. I tried the simple reset and it didnt help. No error message appears.jermbd at 2007-11-15 13:30:20 >

When you connect the iPod go look under 'my computer' and post what letter the iPod is showing up under. Also did you restore the iPod using the updater? If it was connecting before then you should try this method first, if you haven't already.

the ipod is showing up under the "f" drive. I downloaded the updater and then i connected my ipod and it said i needed to reformat it. SO i tried reformatting it, but an error message appeared.jermbd at 2007-11-15 13:32:23 >

While the iPod is connected:-right click on my computer
-select 'manage'
-select 'disk management'
-right click on the iPod drive, in this case 'F'
-select 'change drive letter and paths' to the letter 'I'
Then open iTunes and try connecting it. Many have had this problem with the iPod connecting under the letter 'F' and changing this has solved their problems.

honeybee - i tried changing the drive letter but whenever i click on "disk management", my pc crashes...i can get into disk management when my ipod is not connected, but once i connect it, i run onto this problem. is there anything else i could do? realplayer? winamp?jermbd at 2007-11-15 13:34:21 >

You can use some other software to transfer songs to the iPod.Here is a list of some here:

Make sure that if your gonna use your iPod on other computers while your away to first put it on 'manually manage songs & playlists'. You can also put YamiPod on the iPod HD which will allow you to put music on & take it off of the iPod while connected to any computer.

is it possible that there is something wrong with my firewire cable - because everytime i connect it and try to do something, my pc crashes. I downloaded ephpod and once i connected my ipod, my pc crashed again. thanks for yor helpjermbd at 2007-11-15 13:36:27 >

It could be the cable. Do you have a USB cable with you now? If not, then try purchasing a new cable whenever you can. Burn the music you want to add to a data disk and take it with you. See if you can get a cable while away and you can add the additional songs.honeybee1236 at 2007-11-15 13:37:25 >
