In Device manager my ipod shows up with a yellow exclamation mark , it appears to work ok and if I scan for hardware changes it dissappears but always returns . Is there any way to solve this

Welcome to the Forums!
If you say it appears to work ok, do you mean that you can work with it normally (transfer songs from iTunes, create playlists, battery recharges, etc.)? If nothing interferes with using your iPod mini or any other device (especially those hooked up via USB), then it's best to leave it alone and not look at the Device Manager if there isn't a problem. :P
If something is indeed not working right, try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes. Be sure to leave your iPod disconnected before uninstalling, and reinstall iTunes before hooking your iPod back up.

Thanks for the advice the Ipod seems to be working ok , but I do occasionally get the sound dropping out completely from my computer occasionally demanding a restart , and wondered if it had something to do with this hardware conflict . I tried the steps you suggested but the Ipod still shows up with a yellow exclamation mark
