Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?

I am unsure of the idea of taking my iPod Mini on our grade eight school trip from Toronto to Quebec City (various cities in Canada) next week and looking for some of your opinions.

Myself, I think that the iPod would be great to have with on the long ten hour bus ride, but I do not want my iPod to be stolen when we are staying at the hotel in Quebec City for three nights. I beleive that a safe will be in each hotel room which is comforting to know, yet there are two other kids who will be in my room with me and people might be coming in and out of our room.

An opinion would be great,

do you trust these people? even so i think you should take it with you. although this sounds like a stupid naive thing to say but no one'll steal it...probably.

Keep it in your purse or your pocket when you're out and about.

i'm sure you'll be fine, just keep it in your sight or in your pocket or purse the whole time. don't let people you don't know use it.

If you leave your hotel room for a place where you can't bring your iPod, keep it in the safe. Just hope no one else is going to be using it. :p

keep it zipped up securely in your jacket at all times. use non-apple earphones. if you use the safe, chances are, your roommates will know the combination too. keep it with you all the time. my mini is very precious to me. i would bring it along if i were to travel but i'll be very careful with it.

Good piece of advice, if you do take it with you..don't use the stock earphones...get a cheap pair of black ones..so no one knows it's a ipod . As for wether or not to take it..that's really up to you and how much you trust the people your gonna be with. If you have a cd walkman you might be better off ripping songs to a cd and taking that with ya. I would rather lose a $60 cd walkman and not a $300 ipod.

You can keep it in the safe in the hotel room when you're not using it if you're worried.

Yeah, I'm going overseas to Asia for a month. I'm thinking of leaving it home and getting my brother to play my iPod for like 5 mins a day to prevent it from resetting. Anyone have other suggestions? I'm gonna miss it when I leave, but I would hate to lose it!

Thanks!

When it's only an hour's drive away, it's not worth taking it with you. You can live without it for a couple hours.

Then whats the point of having a music player? It seems like hour long trips, waits, etc are one the prime reasons we have these music devices. If you're always worried about your ipod, then place it back into its box and set it on the shelf were it be safe but unused -- would make for a great decorative piece.

Me? I'd bring it along... it helped me through my hour long wait in the Star Wars III line. :)

Because on a school trip iPods don't get damaged, they get stolen.

...and it wont get stolen while I'm working out, or at a subway, or even strolling down the street? Just because something has a chance of getting stolen doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. *shrug*

# 16 Re: Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?
People seem to be overly concious about getting their iPod stolen. I can understand that. No one wants to lose a several hundred dollar investment. But a lot of iPod owners, (more specifically, owners of the higher end pods) like to show off.

This is bad.

If you're ever in a questionable area, leave the player itself in your backpack or pocket or something instead of in your hand. When you're done with it, just slip it into your backpack or into your pocket.

If you're worried about someone stealing it when you're not around, you need to learn how to hide stuff. The iPod mini is incredibly small. In a hotel room, hiding places are infinite! Even in your backpack, there are tons of places that you could put it that it would probably never be found. On so many occasions, I've flipped out cause I couldn't find my graphing calculator in my bag, all the time, it's always right where I left it, it's just shifted slightly to where it's hidden. If I can lose a graphic calculator in the smallest part of my backpack, surely, you can hide your iPod.

Just try and be discrete about listening to, and putting away your iPod. You shouldn't run into problems.

In my grade 8 trip to quebec, i would have loved to have my ipod. Especially with the 12 hour drive to get there. Trust me, if you dont take it, youll regret it. Im not sure what you are doing in quebec, but you could probably keep it on your person all the time. The only time i wouldnt have is when i went sonwboarding and when we went down the ice slide and ice go-karts. But since its not winter anymore, those things wouldnt be a problem. If you know that you are going to doing physical activity, leave it in the hotel, just hide it in your bag, an be the last one to leave. Id be more concerned with letting people listen to it on the bus. It took me a day to get the CD player i brought with me back from someone who borrowed it on the bus.

In a nutshell just be careful with it, don't lend it to ppl on the bus. I would reccoment that you take it. Thats what you bought it for.

Take the iPod with you. Half the point of getting an iPod in the first place is to take with you places. Quit being scared of what might happen.

Take it just watch out for it. The whole point of having it is for times like these so live it up.

I've taken my iPod to school and on field trips a number of times, except yesterday I made the foolish mistake of lending it to a friend while I went and brought some lunch, I come back and she accidently dropped it :(, I'm still sobbing, lol

Anyway, despite the above I would still take it with me....just don't give it to AYONE, just use the belt clip and have it with you all the time

If you have the mini, then get a lanyard for it. That way it'll always be on site.

Don't worry, if you backpack has a special pocket for a CD player, just stick it there when you're not using it. (unless its the ones that are on the outside) In my backpack, that pocket is on the very inside, and you have to open two zippers to get to it, so it's pretty secure. Also, I just brought mine on a 2-week trip to Europe, and nothing happened to it. (but then, i only played it in the airplane and in my room since we're "technically" not supposed to bring them :P)

I always take my iPod on the school bus, I just make an On-The-Go playlsit (or just set it to one) and keeo it in my pocket, and I put in in the most hidden place in my backpack after I'm don.e My advicxe is to put it in your pocket and listen on the go, then when you get back to the room, put it in a very hidden place OR under your pillow.

No offense dude, but you're crazy.

This thread is about a kid who's afraid he's going to get his iPod stolen if he brings it on a school trip.

iPod security depends on being discrete. Wearing it on a lanyard around your neck, for all the world to see has to be the worst thing you could ever do.

# 27 Re: Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?
why not?? its a portable music player. its for occasions like on busses planes or general listening . its no good if you get it and just leave it at home all the time. might as well get a stereo if thats the case. these things are meant to be used. not bought, looked at and admired and handled with care so as not to smudge it. use the darn thing. there are many people who would love one and there you are leaving it at home where it does no good

OMG OMG DONT TAKE YOUR IPOD ANYWHERE

take it with you, just make sure when your not using it to check to see its there.

i took mine on our 9th grade school trip to vicksburg and it was well worth it. plus girls always wanna listen to music ;) lol

whats the point of having stuff if you dont use it. treat it like a cellphone dont baby this crap outta of it. its not like a person even tho some people worship it here. ops i dropped it who cares its fine.

edit make sure you dont have canal phones on when your have a tour guide cuz you might talk a weenie bit loud :)

Well...

1. It's really no different from the iPod shuffle. And that one detaches easier than the mini's lanyard.

2. Put it under your/his shirt.

3. By "on site" I meant he'd always know where it is without it getting stolen.

Hope that clears my statement up.

The best advice is to make sure you know where it is all the time. Also, don't forget to bring something to charge it with.

# 33 Re: Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?
hey. i've done the whole toronto to quebec trip when i was in grade eight, and i did a toronto to montreal trip with my friends this past february. obviously it's a very long trip, especially by bus. you're going to want to bring your ipod just so you can have a nice variety of music to listen to on the trip there and back. however, like some other people said, just always keep an eye on your ipod. it's such a hot item right now and you can never be too careful with it, who knows what someone will do to get one. so ya, from someone who has done this trip, take the ipod, but watch over it. take care.

# 34 Re: Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?
On a long trip like that from T.O to Quebec its gonna need charging. What do u do about that? DO u just find a computer and sit by it for 4 hours? Do u have a wall charger? Whats the best option cause i am lookin into getting a mini and takin it on a trip with me this summer. I currently have a shuffle and would have the same problem. But i may sell my shuffle to my brother and get the mini.

# 36 Re: Should I Take My iPod On A School Trip?
Hurley, when I went to Europe, I just got the wall charger. It's a travel charger, so it comes with different heads and can handle different voltages. If you're going on a trip in the summer, I'd recommend getting the wall charger, because there might not always be a computer where you are, and if there is, it's usually not free.

Im assuiming I can get a wall charger from a local computer store that sells ipods? yes, no? I could order from apple if i had to but i would rather purchase locally. I wouldnt be going anywhere overseas just if i went a few hours away for a couple days i would need somewheree to charge it.

just take it with you... you will be very bored if you dont. i would just keep the headphones threaded through your shirt so that people don't know where the iPod is. I always thread my headphones through my shirt and clip my iPod on my belt.
