Battery Problem

Recently, I bought a 1st gen iPod mini from a friend that has firmware 1.2 on it. I charge it using USB on the computer. On a full charge, I get about 2 hours of playtime before it shows the low battery icon and shuts off. I know the battery meter is inaccurate, but it always shuts off when the battery meter still shows 2 bars. I've recharged it several times at about the same point every time. Is this some weird glitch or is my battery just dying?

Update the firmware

I had this same problem (or at least very similar). I had a 1G mini that would play for around 2hrs and then shut down as if the battery had run out, even although the meter would show 2-3bars a few secs before shutdown. Fortunately mine was under warranty and I had Apple send a replacement. I never did find out what the problem was, but I think the fact that Apple sent a replacement with no questions asked, suggests that there was a definite glitch with it.

well after updating the firmware to 1.3, the problem is still there. sometimes after it shuts down with 2-3 bars left, i can turn it back on and fiddle with the backlight and in the menus for however long as i want, but the second i try to play music or a game, it shuts down again.
Will replacing the battery solve the problem? and is that the only solution..
