connection to car stereo?

Well, the crappy tape player in my car broke and im in desperate need of a new head unit.

But if i get a head unit that is a tape player , (in order to connect to my ipod easily), it will only put out about 40 watts total, (10 watts per speaker). But if i get this one CD player head unit that i have my eye on, it will put out about 200 watts total and 50 watts per speaker!

The only problem is, i dont know how to connect my ipod to the head unit. I've tried 2 different kinds of radio tuners and they are crap. The guy at best buy said that some of the cd units are simply "compatible" with the ipod, and for another $100 i can connect my ipod to them. This seems a bit expensive though, is there any other way around it?

Thanks in advance!

all u need is a hu with an aux-in jack.

i've had enuf of the itrip (modded as well) and have took the plunge for a pioneer head unit with the ipod interface.

Yeah, look for a car stereo with an aux-in jack. Go to crutchfield.com to look around for some units with them.

I trust Best Buy salespeople about as far as I can throw them. In my experience they try to push stuff on you that will get them better spiffs/bonuses.

thats exactly what i was thinking, he was just loading up the costs and i was gonna pay like 300-400 for a head unit that was barely 200.

anyways, i have heard that Pioneer has the best sound quality, but do you guys have any other suggestions? right now im considering the Aiwa CDC-X304 for only $99. It has the auxillery input, 23.2 watts and is hella cheap! so if i bought that what kind of chord would i need? also is the sound as clear as using a tape deck? thanks for all your help guys!

you would need a 1/8" stereo headphone jack to 1/8" stereo headphone jack.

out from ipod headphone jack to in (aux) of the head unit, prolly 1/8" jack as well.

or some headunits may have RCA inputs (left and right) as opposed to 1/8" input.

as long as the headunit is a quality name you will be okay. just don't buy a headunit that is lloyds, or some cheaper brand. u get what u pay for, to a point.
