ipod lego stands
i saw there was a discount on this ipod stand that made it more affordable, but it was still expensive. so i decide to scrounge around the house for some materials... it occured to me that even though i donated most of my toys/etc long ago, i still had some legos. here's what i came up with.
i would like to see what other people have done. (copy&paste in browser, dunno why links are defunct)

Very cool lego dock for the ipod. Might have to break out some of my old legos.

# 4 Re: ipod lego stands
Have you got any plans of sort.
# 5 Re: ipod lego stands
@blackman: not really. it's basically all the scrap legos i had from my youth. i would just hate getting ripped off for a stand. the best stand i've seen is: www dot ipodstand dot com/product.htm but it's doesn't have any docking features. i'm not very business savvy. i wish lego would do something official with apple like "white legos" and several kits for an ipod stand -- that would rejuvenate the legos for the older crowd.
p.s. i wonder when i will be able to post url's it's annoying trying to obfuscate to beat the "validator"

don't bother emailing lego... that's their reply when i suggested they should form a partnership with apple so that our "stands" can become "docks," i didn't even suggest a prototype that i wanted. i just want a lego piece that allows me to dock. oh well.
Dear Mr Lee
Thank you for your email from 05/27/05 and for your interest in our LEGO products.
As you know, versatility is the foundation of LEGO toys, and, since LEGO Maniacs and their families are so creative, we receive many new product ideas from parents and children. We sincerely appreciate your generous intent-it is quite a compliment when a consumer voluntarily takes their valuable time to share their thoughts with us.
Each year, hundreds of new LEGO sets are introduced and our assortment now includes exciting new items such as games and puzzles. Within the LEGO Group, there are several research and development areas, whose sole purpose is to formulate new product ideas, compatible elements, instructions booklets, etc. From start to finish, a new item will require in-depth research and design work long before it appears at your local store.
To avoid confusion about the origin of products during this development process, we have a long-standing company policy, which prohibits us from accepting outside ideas. I'm sure that this policy may seem rigid, especially for someone who simply has a great idea they wish to share with the LEGO Group. However, for legal reasons, we have to abide by this policy.
Thank you again for contacting us. We wish your family many happy hours of creative building with LEGO brand toys in the years to come.

# 21 Re: ipod lego stands
It's more likely that the sue-for-everything legal system in the States is to blame for Lego's position. They probably don't want to bother with people suing for joint ownership of their ideas, profit sharing, etc.

Thanks for fixing the links. Nope, I didn't make mine so that it could be hooked to the computer (the way my computer desk is set up, the stand would just get in the way if I had done it that way), but it'd be pretty easy to change if I wanted to do that--would just have to remove a few Legos.
# 27 Re: ipod lego stands
Lego developed new stones for Legoland germany that are white-transparent. (The built the "alianz-arena" - Germany's newest football/soccer-stadium with it) If they where for sale on the "free market" they would so match the iPod!!!

# 44 Re: ipod lego stands
Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Heh, nothing impressive to look at, but it does have a dock connector, and an "audio out" line. I just decided to build one, because I was just getting to lazy to have to crawl under my desk every time I wanted to recharge my ipod (read: every two to three days), so I just built a stand for my ipod. It's connected to my stereo, because I don't like wearing earphones while trying to work, they just get in the way too many times, that and you can't really hear anything. Anyways, here are the pics:

Tote at 2007-11-15 15:40:42 >

# 47 Re: ipod lego stands
Very cool!
So when you dock it, do you have to pull the cord through, plug it in, then push it back? No biggie, just wondering.
You've inspired me. I may just go create my own to match! :)
# 48 Re: ipod lego stands
that's neat. It looks alot easier to make than mine: www.trevorshp.com/dock2.htm
# 49 Re: ipod lego stands
Thats pretty SVEET. You got your ipod hooked up to your stereo as well? Thats a sweet deal. My ipod is kept in my car, constantly charging and playing... Hmm I love carhook ups.
Overall sweet though.
Picsel at 2007-11-15 15:43:43 >

# 50 Re: ipod lego stands
@ Tote: Yep, it is. I used the lego pieces to pinch the sides of the dock cable so that the metal hooks on the side are permanently stuck in, at least when I don't take it out that is. (read: never, unless I have plans for a better dock :P) So now, I just plunk it in or just pull it out.
@JuryDuty: Nah, the cord's always in there, I have another one lying around for when I need to connect it to my computer (downstairs) so I can just plunk it in there at the end of the day, or when I want to listen to something as I work.
@idaedheloth: OMG, I wish I could do that. But seeing that I have no electrical, or woodworking experience or access to any materials, I'm guessing that I'll never be able to do that.
For mine, the dock cable is always hooked up to the makeshift dock. If anyone's ever tried this, you'll know it's a pain to squeeze the thing in there. I'll try to show you how it looks like on the inside with the following pictures:
