got an Etymotic 6isolator but...
But these are really hard to take it off! In order to get a deep bass and real sound isolation I have inserted them as instructed (wetting the sleves) but taking them off is a pain. They go so in that only way to take them off is pulling gently from the cords. Does it create a problem? is there a practical way to take them off?

Grab the earphone unit itself; twist and pull at an angle as to let air in and break the minor vacuum that is created with canalphones, before then pulling them out. Canalphones are great, but just take a little while to adjust to all their little quirks.

With some people (like myself) the whole unit goes completely inside the ear. Sometimes you have no choice but to pull on the cord.
# 3 Re: got an Etymotic 6isolator but...
That's one of the reasons I upgraded to the ER4, the entire ER6i fit into my ear canal and the only way I could get them out was pulling on the cord. It should be fine within reason, the ER4 is designed so that it takes 10x the force of pulling the earphone out of the ear to separate the cord from the earphone. I would assume the ER6i is similar.

It sounds like your ER 'phones at least work. I bought a pair of ER6i two months ago and one of them is all but dead. I've written ER twice (their website seems to have disappeared) and ditto the dealer in the last two weeks with no reply whatsover.
I have the suspicion that the "filter" needs to be cleaned but don't have a clue how to do it. It's mentioned in the "instructions" (a pathetic description) but no explanation is given on use of the provided tool, etc. etc.
Junk with no support IMHO.

Just got lucky and found a URL for ER
http://etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.asp
That's the page for ER6i and (shock) they even have a decent PDF manual. Wonder why they don't supply it with new prodcts?
Tech/customer support is still lousy IMHO.

You're quite right about "catching them at a bad time" and I appreciate your comment.
(And I obviously was not in the best of moods when making my original post. I was very pleased with the ER-6i prior to the problem and have since solved it with the PDF on their website. I do wish they would provide the same brief manual with the product as it is very illustrative and useful.)
Take care.

Perhaps I have received a "new version", but both sets of ER-6i's that I received include the printed version of the PDF that is on the ER Website.

I didn't buy mine that long ago (2 months?) but all that came with it was a small brochure with no photos, nothing like the PDF on website.
It makes the comment, for example, that you need to change the filter now and then. Doesn't describe how. No photos. I had no idea (although guessed) what the little tool for changing filters was. I did not buy from ER so maybe dealer had it in stock for awhile. All I know is the PDF answered all my questions and a few I didnt even know needed asking. ;)

Hmm...Interesting. My manual covers it with full pictures on page 8 & 9. I initially tried to order new filters on-line, but there was a problem with the store. I called them up..very nice people.
Back on topic, yeah, you need to twist a little bit and pull lightly. It took me a few weeks to get used to it, but it only takes me a little more effort than the EX71's did. And you get much better sound.

I'm just happy you guys like your 6i's. I couldn't get comfortable with them, and no amount of pushing and repositioning in my ears got them to produce any bass at all. I just got a pair of Sony MDR-EX81LP's and I'm digging them.

Etymotic Research usually has fantastic customer service. I have asked questions and have received samples from them in the past with no problems.
With regards to the original poster's problem, it's not good to pull on the cord like that. You're likely to loosen the wire and lose sound out of one or more of the earbuds, which can happen with any earphone you pull cords on, Ety or otherwise. If the flanges are too small for your ears (which sounds like your problem, if you have to insert them that deeply) then you might want to try some of their large foam tips. Some of the larges are very large indeed. You can email Ety's customer service regarding the foamies, and they are likely to send you some large foam samples.
Also, Shure has triflanges as well, which I believe do fit on Etys, so if you are up for trying some of their sleeves, you might find one that's a better fit.
