very disappointed with the Sony MDR-EX81

my stock ipod earbuds and my stock psp earbuds outperform the new sony ones i got.

It might be down to you not getting a good, tight seal. Try the different sleeves that came with your Sony's and try to achieve a tight seal. Look here (http://www.shure.com/earphones/howto.asp) and click on the "Click here to watch an animated Flash...". Even though that's for the Shure earphone range is still in the same principle.

yeah, you won't get any bass response unless you get the ear piece all the way in your ear canal, they can't just rest inside your ears, you have to force them in...

oh wow possede. thanks! haha. it works much better now.

i learned that i have to warm up the rubber pieces and twist them a little, then pull my ear up and insert them in. that way it creates a seal.

hehe. pretty advanced stuff. i never knew i'd have to do all this for earbuds... but it has improved dramatically! thanks.

okay... wow. has my opinion changed. it's great! just a little tricky and weird shoving them in but once it's in... boy. hehe.

With canal 'phones they take a bit of time to get used to. Once you've mastered the tight seal, you'll be able to achieve good isolation really quickly. It all comes with practice :P

Earphones don't normally need the "burn in" process. That's normally for headphones. I only heard a slight improvement in bass when I was using my Shure E3c's.

I think some of the burn in relates how your hearing adjusts to the new headphones. Although I have noticed marked improvements on my sony ex71sl's since I have started to use them more regular.
