Soundsticks vs. Creatures (vs. OnStage)
First, I am not looking for "other" speaker recommendations. I know there are likely other speakers (Klipsch 2.0, etc.) that may well have better performance for better price. Having said all of that, I am looking for input and comments on comparing the Creatures vs. Soundsticks (and perhaps vs. the OnStage).
The Creatures get consistently good reviews and in Canada they go for a very reasonable $150 or so. The Soundsticks go for about $100 more but I have not seen much in the way of reviews. Can anyone comment?

SoundSticks rock. I've had the older USB version for over a year, and it fills my apartment great -- loud, adjustable bass level, and bright highs. Listen mostly to rock and alternative.
I highly recommend them.

2.0's or Swan M-200's are my only votes.

2.0 or 2.1?

The Klipsch are 2.0. I haven't heard them, but they sure do look nice! :D

Klipsch's makes a 2.1 system for a about 50 bucks more, Has a great subwoofer too. The picture is of the newer 2.0 system which focues more on the midrage and trebel.

I am not sure I have the space in my den for a subwoofer (I have read it should be low on the floor for best performance) so the 2.0 may be best for me.
Problem is, I have not been able to find any retailer in Toronto that carries them and shipping to To. is prohibitive.
I will keep looking.
My alternative is perhaps a Tivoli something. I need to actually go hear it in person.

in my hunt for speakers i looked at creatures, soundstick IIs and Altec FX6021 (which is what i decided upon eventually!). i do remember prefering the cleaner sound of the soundsticks to that of the creatures, and was willing to pay more for them, until i found the FX6021 for the same price as the soundsticks.
however if you can get the creatures for cheaper then $150 (which i'm sure you can, even from US) then value for money they are a good choice. otherwise the soundsticks if you're going to be a bit fussier about the sound reproduction.
the encounters are supposed to be quite good as well...

Yeah, it's important to hear them in person. Everyone has different listening preferences. To you, the Creatures might sound as good or better than more expensive systems. OTOH, you may decide the more expensive Sticks are well worth the extra cost.
The OnStage are very nice IMO, but no low-frequency bass (can hardly be blamed considering the size.) I just bought the OnTour, similar type of sound but can be battery-powered for taking out.
For home, I just snagged a Klipsch Promedia 2.1 for $40 on EBay, I feel like I got pretty lucky! (broke my own suggestion and haven't listened to them, but for the price I'm sure I will be satisfied...)
