Helixipod-Shuffle Case

Hm, I've waited so long just to dress my shuffle with the helixipod case. Anyone know any information regarding the case? Has he started selling it? I can't wait any longer.

I'm waiting too and haven't heard anything. Just keep checking helixipod.com. I'm sure there will be an announcement made on the front page.

Yeah, i guess we just have to wait for him to give us a long awaited news we've been waiting for. What i can't understand is that he desn't even has the web-site ready. He could post updates on his web-site if he has it ready.

Anyway, still eagerly waiting.

I would love one of his cases, as long they don't cost a fortune that is.....We all just have to wait though.

It's too bad Helix didnt get his production line shipped out earlier.

A few cases have come out since his last message, and even I have improvised several schemes for belt, lanyard, and armband cases.

A friend helped me with designing, cutting, and bending an aluminum sheet for a wraparound case.

I may still be interested in a Helix.case, if it comes out before the next iPod, and my balding wallet can shell out the reasonable price. :p

Timely marketing could produce stellar sales.

it's because he has reserved the domain. By the way, I'm getting tired waiting, and am getting a case for my shuffle sometimes this week.

Between the recently announced Griffin Tech iVault:

http://griffintechnology.com/products/ivault/index.php

and the Exopod machined case:

I think Helixipod's delay is going to cost him. His announcement came out several months ago and he still doesn't have a website or even announced a price. It was a great design, but I think he delayed a little too long.

Ok, First off contrats Helix, thats great that your case is being manufactured by a big name company.

But dont get me wrong, I am happy for you, but I for one, was looking foward to buying one from you, from postings he put on here, he "had the material" and he had a few friends helping to make them for him, and they were ready to be shipped and we were waiting a few days for a price and for his website and now... He will not even respond to emails. You would think that he would send out an email to people who requested to buy one from him to let them know about this.

Now that Griffin is churning these out ( in China, or Taiwan probably) will I buy one, I dont know. I have not purchased a iPod shuffle yet, was going to if I was able to buy one of these cases.

I am a believer of in Made in America, it would have been nice of Helix would have been able to sell cases that he made himself, I know if I had this skill, I would love knowing the fact that people liked and bought something that I made with my own hands...

Now if Helix has a hand in the manufacturing, thats great, and thats what I hope, I also hope that Griffin buys his other designs, as long as they pay him well.

I do commend you and congratulate you, just hope you Griffin tech gave you a good deal and allows you to keep enough rights to your design that you can do other things as well.

You can't make big money selling accessories for the ipod shuffle. The margin might be high but cases for an ipod? That's just one sku and one case among a dozen. Let's say they sold 500,000 shuffles so far (and that might be high) and the take rate on cases is 10%.

50,000 people want cases and if this cool case gets 1 out of 5 case sales, that is 10,000 cases sold. If the margin is $5/case, that is $50,000...hardly rich and I inflated the numbers altho the margin might be higher.

I could sell my design and rights to a Company for $25,000 cash and walk away.

More realistic to me would be about 100,000 shuffles sold, 20,000 non-oem cases sold, this case gets 2% of those which is 400. $10 margin is $4,000. By the end of the year with 1 million shuffles in circulation, that $4,000 could turn to $40,000.

Just a guess (hope my math is correct). :)

# 17 Re: Helixipod-Shuffle Case
I would even go as far as to say the margin might be $20 a pop.

I put in for pre-order way back when. Finally cancelled my order last week. Maybe I'll put in an order when these finally start shipping and get some positive reviews.

What a great way to launch a product... by not having any available!!!

I've lost all interest because of this... and because he decided to go with the company that charges the most rediculous shipping fees, but has absolutely no logical reason for it.
