iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
Our ##### principal got over the p.a. system today to tell us all that iPods have now been banned before class, during class, and after class. She says that every single day she recieves a report of some kid crying because he got his iPod stolen. This is true, because these kids will take anything! But it's ######ed also. I've only taken my 4G 20gb pod to school once, and all the kids got their grimy fingers on the wheel, so last week i ordered an iPoDonut, but it hasn't arrived. Either way, i aint never taking it to school again!
But, i have seen some dolt drop his iPod mini over the 2nd floor and it shattered into pieces, which means it cracked and stuff. But, it still played, but not very well. The lcd was all cracked. And, i have seen people steal ipods from other people.
She says that if she sees one, she will confiscate it and not return it back under any condition. Damn!
Now, i am planning to play a prank on the #####. I have printed a paper iPod in my printer. Ima take it to school tomorrow, and when the ##### catches me, ima show her its paper!
How well does the iPodonut work? does it break off after a while or what?

Oh wow. That was a trip, just reading that. I don't know it just seemed surreal or something.
# 2 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
That sucks, but in a way its good: no more stolen iPods and no more cries over damage or messy prints on your click wheel. Well, I guess he will be a bit surprised when he sees that and he will look like an idiot, so enjoy it :D

Just FYI: If this is a public school, they do not have the legal right to confiscate something that isn't illegal as said by the government for an indefinite period. They must return it within a certain timeframe as they cannot take a 400 dollar device for no actual reason.

so to prevent the theft of your ipod, she will confiscate it and never give it back...
If you want to hide it, find an nice big old cassette walkman and strip the inside, throw in some foam so you dont scratch your ipod while it's in there, lastly ditch the white headphones.

That's all your faults for flashing the darn things around then. There's tons of kids in my school who bring MP3 players or CD players into school but don't show them to everyone.

Here's an even better idea. To prevent theft, why not just leave the iPod at home while you're at school?
Why go through all that trouble of hollowing out a walkman? Is having an iPod at school *that* important?
# 7 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
No kidding... how much can you listen to an iPod at school anyway (high school/junior high, that is)? You got like 10 minutes between classes... that's two or three songs, max. Lunchtime? 1 hour.
I remember high school and junior high being very condensed in the sense that the majority of the time, I was either in class or at lunch -- not much leisure time.
It goes without saying that iPods shouldn't be used during class -- back in the day, walkmans were discouraged at school... and when beepers came of age, they were banned as well (it signified you as a drug dealer)... I'm surprised cell phones are allowed at school except in special circumstances.
At any rate, think of it as security that your iPod will remain your iPod and not some lonely, thieven hoodlum's at school. Trust me -- once you get into college, you'll be able to use your iPod whenever, and appreciate it that much more... ;)

The cool thing about my new shuffle is that i can wear it around my neck between t shirt one and t shirt two where nobodys gonna steal it. i can push the buttons thru the t shirt to operate it cus it has no screen that you need to look at.

Completely agree, if I was in Highschool still and I had an ipod. The last thing I would do is show it to kids there, let alone have them touch it. Hell with that!!!
# 10 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
Smart move on the school. They just dont want to be responsible for all that #### going missing and stuff. They r making sure their asses dont get sued.
# 11 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
I found out why the school is doing that. She says that she has been recieving a lot of calls from parents whose kids get their iPods stolen and they always ##### and complain.
And, coincidentally, today i got my iPoDonut! The screen protecter was hard to get on, because of its abillity to attract dust and ####, but i used mailing tape to remove the dust from the adhesive, and voila!
and the donut kinda feels like the wheel, but it is slightly different colored and it feels slightly more papery and sandy. But, no problems for now!
Still though, i aint bringing it to school again! no more monkeys jumping on the bed!!!!
EDIT: Ive got the ipodonut on now, but in order to get it on, i had to keep using scotch tape on the ipodonut to get all the dust off. Will this weaken the adhesive of the donut?

You don't need to look at the screen of a regular iPod to operate it either.

i can't play my 2g ipod without looking at the screen caus with the new software playlists is at the top of the menu not artists so you get stuck in playlist which i hardly even use.

Hey, The Same thing going down at my school. I only no like 10 ppl who have ipods, but i just wire mine through my shirt with my hair down, works a dream.
# 17 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
When I was in high school, the policy was no radios or cassette players in school. Reasons were about the same, along with the 'distraction' and 'inappropriate environment' bits. Things have not changed much in almost 30 years, have they?
I also had my cool mini-tape player ripped off during school picture day. Dang.
# 18 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
So how did the paper iPod trick go?
# 19 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
HAven't noticed it yet, but i need a way to make paper white Earphones. OR i can use my own, but that risks getting those confiscated anyway, or them saying "Where's your real iPod, Mr. Sanchez?" Ill notify you when i do get caught.
# 20 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
heh in my high school (private catholic) everyones soo damn rich that im like the last person to prolly get an ipod in my class.
# 21 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
All these whiny #####es that complain about people pawing their iPods at school, ones that complain when they're confiscated.
You idiots *know* people want to steal them, yet you wear them on clips, publicly displaying your 'status symbol' and you wonder why they get pinched and then you wonder why your school bans them.
Newsflash! Don't take them with you! You don't get much usage out of them and if you simply must take it to school, stop listening to the ####ing things in class, hide it, wear black earphones and don't tell a single person that you have an iPod unless you want people pawing over you.
####s sake, people, have a brain.
# 22 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
I was too late!!! This real ####head in my class was wearing white earbuds with no ipod. He got 2 hours detention and permanent confiscation of the earbuds. Whoopee...
How do i make paper earbuds?
# 23 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
just buy some five dollar earbuds at the store, spraypaint them white, and use that.

5 dollars for two hours of detention? I don't think so. I wouldn't do it . If you really really really want to do it, go to Walmart, they have some for 96 cents.

Geez, why bother wasting the time to do stupid stuff like this? The last time I checked, school was a place where you went to go learn things, not to go around posturing and looking like a big shot.
You may think you're making a point, but all you're doing is making yourself look like an idiot.
"Ha ha, I cheezed you off, principal! How foolish do you look trying to confiscate my PAPER earbuds?"
The questions you should be asking are:
1. "How foolish do *I* look WEARING paper earbuds?"
2. "How foolish will I look in 3-4 years when all of my friends are in college and I'm stuck working menial jobs for the rest of my life?"
3. "Would you like fries with that?"
But hey, as long as you look cool with an iPod, right?
# 26 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
Well, at our school..iPods and such have been stolen so much, that the school didn't have to ban them...most kids don't bring them anymore, or, a few kids disguise them...
# 27 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
iPods were banned in our school because they distracted us. but none have been stolen as far as I know. If we want to keep them safe during the day we can hand them over in the morning to the office without getting confiscated.
# 28 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
iPods haven't been banned at my school, because the administration is probably only acutely aware of their existence. My shuffle gets a few looks here and there, but no teacher or administrator can tell it's an unallowed music player.
# 29 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
ipod havent been banned at my school, but if ur listening to it in the halls, they sometimes get taken away by security guards/deans

# 30 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
I agree with others about the purpose of an iPod at (high) school other than a status symbol. I am not too far removed from high school (graduated in 2003) and the only time that I remember actually having time to listen to music during school hours was after an exam. We had 7 minutes to change classes and in a school the size of mine, that was just enough time and would have been impossible if I was trying to select the right song for a class change. I can understand if you had to ride the bus home or had a game/match/competition and had to ride a bus somewhere after school, but DURING school, I do not see the need for an iPod. Now in college, there are PLENTY of opportunities to listen to my iPod "during school hours". So if you are an angry high schooler who can't listen to you iPod because it is banned at your school, just wait and enjoy it at college.
By the way, can any high schooler who uses theirs at school tell me when they listen to it and for how long? I am just curious.
# 31 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
I use mine on the walk to the bus stop, and occasionally on the bus. I use it during graphics and computers, and occasionally on the walk home.

# 32 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
I use my ipod for bus/ car rides and working out. I mean lisenting between classes is pointless. The kids who use their ipods at school just want everyones attention...its silly security will confiscate cd players but they dont confiscate ipods.
# 33 Re: iPods have been banned from my school Plus, questions bout the ipodonut
i listen during class. I stick the iPod mini in my blazer (i go to school in England) and put the headphones up my sleeve and they're in my hand but i lean on my hand with my ear so it just looks like im completely bored and am about to fall asleep. The only problem is getting up; be careful not to let the earbud stay placed in your ear or your stuffed. This trick works particularly well in English lessons in the library or any lesson in the computer room as you can use it as your flash disk. By the way you can access music from windows explorer by changing folder options and viewing hidden folders. This lets you listen to music and use it as a USB flash drive! ;-)
