Shuffle Inserts gaps Between Songs
What would Itunes be like without the ability to burn complemation & mix albums without Gaps between each song..
Answer : Annoying!!
Ive just bought a Shuffle & taken it down the gym for its first test drive - Fantastic! for the first song anyway ;-) then this gap appeared at the end of the song like the dj had fumbled his cue , hmm no problem i thought i'll sort that out when i get back... then i carried on, shuffling the whole way - starting to get a bit miffed by the gaps! Ever burnt a Mix cd & left the gaps in & replayed it to yourself - well you know how annoying that can be - its reburn time!
Its the only major flaw i can see in this product - i realize the size & simplicity of the product, & lack of control interface options on the shuffle itself - but surely when loading the shuffle up in Itunes you could flick an option to play songs back to back - especially when mixing up straight albums & comps / mixes Are we music lovers not meant to be listening to comps & mixes ! that negates a large section of our collections. The only current work around seems to reburn the mix / comp CD as one whole mix - Bah! where did the shuffle go >? I love the idea of the shuffle - always hearing something different - but this implementation is not good!
The shuffle is a fantastic Product - but i personally see this as an irritating flaw that could potentially be rectified so easily.
if you own a shuffle & like me Find this irritating i recommend letting Apple know - it will be doing everyone a favor including Apple, go to the support page & voice your opinions & request the option for back to back music - no gaps :)

ps. i wonder if fading in & out of the end / start of tracks might be a nice option too :)

Definitely, I really don't see why Apple doesn't even try to support gapless playback. There is a natural gap between mp3s however (though the Rio Karma for one bypasses it for gapless playback) but the gap on Apple players is much longer than this. It's simply sloppy programming.

You can use the Join Tracks feature when you import the CD. You'll get one long untinterrupted mix.
You won't be able to skip between tracks but on the shuffle and with dj mixes you don't really anyway.

Hotphil - Thanks for the link, i was over there & duely signed! its amazing what you can get done whilst waiting for the next track :) I still reckon using the feedback form aswell, is a good way of sticking it right under their nose in a way they cant ignore - if we can get enough people pumping them full of feedback / modification requests they'd be stupid not too :)
As for the Gap all Mp3s carry, that may well be the case, though Im thinking if they can manage to display photos on TVs they can wage a Valiant war against the iPod Pause ;)

As the Shuffle "shuffles" all the tracks, you're bound to get a gap aren't you - I know you can stick it on normal play, but its still moving from one MP3 to another. I don't see a way around it, as I don't think the Shuffle is smart enough to have the next track lined up whilst the first is playing...

Strangely enough I would have expected some form of delay with a Hard Drive based MP3 - if that delay was actually noticeable to any degree is debatable, im not sure whether Ipods have buffers etc, but bear in mind the shuffle is solid state & i would expect 'seek' time to be very small.
As to whether the shuffle is capable of it, im sure it is, think what the device is doing in the first place & consider the data transfer speeds when its in USB Drive mode - it shouldn't have any problems in my humble opinion.
At the end of the day its the whole Ipod range is about enjoying music this happens to be a annoying to what appears to be a lot of users I would have expected apple to have thought about this more than they have appeared to.
Personally I would like to see on comps a no gap tag to skip straight to next track or at the very least a significant reduction of the gap time &/or a fade in / out feature.

I think you'll find that the "gapless playback" community, while loud, is probably not that large.
Gapless playback? Sure would be nice, but is it a show stopper? No.
Does it make me want to use another player? No.
If Apple are even considering it I would assume that it isn't a top priority. The ipod, and more so, the Shuffle, is about random playback, not listening to all your albums, on track at a time in order.
Most people, basically, couldn't "give a monkeys".

There has to be some sort of pause for the player to "shuffle" to the next track, right?
# 10 Re: Shuffle Inserts gaps Between Songs
The shuffle mode is synched to the play-in-order mode so the shuffle is already prearranged. There is no need for a pause.

Bryan - I love your comment " is it a show stopper? No"
My whole point is it is a Show Stopper! well for that second or so!! :)
If your name tag is anything to go by, you'll forgive me for making the assumption a fair amount of your music taste is orientated around Rock & Roll - which may well bias your views as im thinking they're aint alot of continuous rock & roll mix Back to back albums out there?, that you would have to endure with dirty great gaps between em - ergo it wouldnt make that much difference.
but for my sins (& millions others) im into electronica & a lot electronic music revols round mixes
& back to back music, for this type of music lover it is a problem - which could be overcome.
