Ipod quirks? is it broken or are these normal?

There are lots of little quirks that lead me to believe my ipod may be faulty. i have mini ipod.

1. THe apple logo has never appeared? I've seen it in lots of pictures of ipods. is it supposed to appear when it turns on/off?

2. i can feel current when i touch the aluminium case while it charges. is this normal? (feels like its it's vibrating or something.)

3. from time to time it gets stcuk in shuffle mode and wont let me go back to the main menu when i press the menu button. (although all the other buttons work, and the menu button will still turn the backlight on if it is held down.)

my warranty only lasts 90 days, an i only got it a week ago. so i'd like to know if all this stuff is par for the course.

regards.

why does your warranty last only 90 days? All ipods have a one year warranty.

The apple logo has to appear at the very latest when you leave it for a day or so, you can easily see it when you reset the ipod.

Vibrating I would say is normal, at least the HD should whirr at times.

I'd say reset it or restore the software and everything should be normal

The apple logo is only seen on iPod start up from deep sleep or on a reset of the device. If you use your iPod daily, it will never go into deep sleep and you will never see the iPod's apple logo unless you reset. When you turn the iPod off it goes into a light sleep that allows for a quick wake up so your music is always available immediately. The iPod goes into deepsleep when left untouched for about 24-30 hours.

Do you charge while connected to a computer? If so are you set to manual update? If so, make sure you eject your iPod. while on manual mode the iPod will have it's hard drive spinning. If no to all that I'm not sure I would no "a current" while charging, so can't help more.

I'd try a reset or restore first.

When you say stuck in shuffle mode is this shuffling through songs and not playing them or just not letting you get back to the menu to get out of shuffle. If it is shuffling through and not playing songs you have a problem with song files or firmware of the iPod. Do a reset/restore.

As Alicia has suggested an iPod should come with a full year warrenty. This is of course if you haven't bought it used, or just had an iPod returned from service. An iPod that has been serviced has warrenty for 90 days or the remainder of the warrenty period, whatever is longer

Good luck,

sorry, the ipod has a years waranty. but i only have 90 day store retrun (if you catch my drift).

On the topic of leaking current. It's not the hard drive spinning. Whenever it is charging (either on the mains or via USB) if i rub my finger lightly over the aluminium case, i can feel the slight tingle of a ellectrical current. Has anyone experienced this? Should i bring it back to the store where i bought to see if ican get a new one before its too late?

Gotcha now. 90 day store return. That's different than warrenty :)

I've never heard of anyone expereinces this electrical tingle. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, of course, but not many people pet their iPods while they are charging ;)

Hopefully someone else can comment. If not, and you are unhappy or unsure of your purchase you can always invoke the return policy. It's your right as a consumer.
