change ipod name?

That does not work, i tried both that and the first did not work, and the second i was not allowed to change the name, i know the name does not affect the name in the main menu, only in the about. PLEASE HELP!

Also make sure you are not in auto-sync mode, auto-sync does not allow you to change anything.

Phatpat you can't get rid of the word "iPod" at the top of iPod's main menu screen directly. That's where the confusion is coming in. We get a lot of people asking how to change the name of the iPod in the iTunes source pane, hence the advice you've been getting.

To change it, you need to hack the iPod's firmware. Someone created a program called iPod Wizard which they claim will allow you to do this. Do a Google search or check www.engadget.com, as they did an article about these kinds of hacks.

I went back a few posts and read that you tried making the change in My Computer, but you didn't have enough privileges. That's could be your problem right there. If you don't have the right permissions on your computer to change the name of the iPod in My Computer, when you change it in iTunes it won't "stick." iTunes will display the name you give it, but if you don't have read/write permissions to change the name in My Computer, the name won't show up on the iPod. Try right clicking on the iPod icon in My Computer and checking your security settings.

Everything we've told you should work. So if after you reset the iPod and check your permissions, and it still doesn't work, I don't know what else you could do other than contact Apple Support.

I had a similar problem, it would not change in iTunes until I did this:

Plug in The iPod.
Open Up iTunes.
Open up iPod Configuration.
In the "Music" tab, check the box that says: "Manually manage songs and playlists".

Wait for the screen for the iPod to change, and it will show all of your playlists. Click on the bit that says "IPOD" in the navigation frame, until you can edit the text. Enter your name for it. The name change won't apply for about 3+ seconds, then it will change.

Eject the iPod then check the change has been applied by going to "Settings" -> "About".

So you want to change your iPod's name so that it appears in the "About" screen through the iPod? This does not correctly display names, I named my iPod "The nimic iPod" yet the about screen on the iPod only shows "THE." You should not go through "My Computer" to change your iPod's name, that is just changing the drive's label and not the actual name of the iPod. I am just trying to get what you are changing; the name of your iPod that appears when you plug it into iTunes or the name that appears at the top of the sceen in the iPod? On a side note you must be logged in under administrator to make changes through iTunes. I don't know why single clicking, waiting a second, then single clicking again on your iPod's name won't allow you to change it (like when your changing the name of a file without right-clicking on it).

I've got the same problem. I renamed my iPod in iTune and it shows up in My Computer with that name, but it doesn't show the new name on the about screen. I tried doing the manual update option and that didn't change it either. Is it just because I have the HP version?

My iPod can display all of these marks, including the umlaut in Blue yster Clut and the accent in Sigur Rs (Icelandic group). It even displays the Icelandic-only slash-D () letter from one of their songs. Hearts and other non-Unicode symbols may be another story.
