Replace iPod drive... with 200G external drive?

I want to replace my iPod's drive... with my 200G USB drive. No, it won't fit in my pocket anymore. But all my music is on the big drive; I want to be able to plug it into my stereo, even when I don't have my laptop with me. An old iPod seems like a perfect controller/decoder, if I could somehow wire it up to the drive directly.

Anybody know how to do this, or why it's completely impossible?

No idea, but if you could do it... that would be one super-buffed iPod.

Hmm, that would look weird. Empty inside, brick outside :D

See if you might be able to find an iPod on ebay that has a wrecked hdd for a cheap price. Then you could use that one instead of gutting your working one.
