Changing how to access songs in iPod
Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Does anyone know how to change how songs are accessed on the iPod? I like using artist, song title, or genre, but ideally I'd like to use a directory structure just like use in Windows.
Believe it or not, that is the fastest, most efficient way for me.
Is there a way I can do this on the iPod by modifying it somehow?
Thank you.

Yes, they can be changed by using a different program instead of iTunes, like Anapod Explorer.

The iPods' OS is closed, thereby making it impossible to make such adjustments - until someone can figure out how to crack it or it's publicly released (yeah right).
The firmware can be modified, but only cosmetic things such as graphics and text can be changed - not file structure. Hopefully, sometime in the near future it will be possible to make such changes.
Until then, the only other option I'm aware of is to install Linux on your iPod (as long as it's not a mini, photo or 4G!). Linux developers have added a lot of functionality to their iPods, but they still have a long way to go to obtain a stable system. And besides, I don't think anyone's addressed the issue you're referring to even in Linux.:D

Excellent info. Thanks. I suspected Apple would make it difficult. I think I will explore using Linux. Have a lot of people tried it? If it doesn't work, I think I could back to using the regular software. Thanks guys... you rock!
