Partitioning an iPod and putting OSX on it

Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. Is it possible to partition an iPod. I have a 40GB iPod and want to use it both for music and as a backup for my Mac. I want to partition it 10GB/30GB and make the 10 for audio and the 30 as a backup with an operating system on it (10.3.8). Does anyone know if this is possible? Would I 'destroy' the iPod in some way, or at least make it impossible for me to use the iPod as just an iPod if I ever wished to in the future?

Thanks for any suggestions or experience
