Install a 10GB HD from old iPod to 3G one?
I have an old school iPod with the wheel that actually spins and all and it is getting all old and the headphone jack is messed up and it is fatty. So, my hard drive and LCD screen are both in perfect condition so I was just thinking to buy somebodies broken iPod G3 and installing my own hard drive and LCD. Can you do this? My uncle is an electrical engineer so soldering stuff wouldn't really be a big issue as he is pretty genius with that kind of stuff.
Thanks,
Eric

Well, iPod 1st gen/2nd Gen had thick, old style laptop drives. iPod 3rd Gen actually uses .25 inch drives, which wouldn't work.

I had my iPod repaired and it may actually have an newer HD in it, the size it 1/8" x 3 1/8" x 2 1/8" is that still to fat to put in a newer iPod? It also has a bunch of little pin holes at the top. Do the newer iPods connect the same way?
How do the LCD screens attach to the 3Gs and are they the same screen?

Entirely wrong. ALL iPods have 1.8" drives, much smaller than the 2.5" laptop drives. The thickness is different though, so it depends on if the 3G was a 30 or 40gb, or smaller. I'd bet that if you had a thick casing 3g (40 or 30GB I believe) that the 10GB from a 1 or 2 gen pod will fit. No guarantees tho.
My opinion, sell the old iPod, and buy a 3g with a cracked screen on ebay, and buy a replacement screen for around $70-$80 and fix it yourself.
