Emulators running on iPod
Ok, does anyone know if this will work?
I was just thinking that if you downloaded for example a NES emulator and ROMS, could you download and install these files on to the iPod and then run these games off of the iPod on your computer, with the iPod acting as an external hard drive. This would be cool because you could carry games around with you that could be played on any PC with a USB port. Once again I have no idea about technical limitations about this. This is just a thought I had. I believe this would be legal as well as long as you had a hard copy of the ROM you were downloading. I would love to download Mario on my iPod take it to school plug it into computers there and play.
Any comments on this?

Yeah, it'll work. No reason for it not to.

ROFL ;)
But anyway as the other poster has said, it should work. It's defintely technologically possible

Well I guess this idea wasnt as revolutionary as I thought. :p Thanks for the help though guys. Glad to know it will work.

A more interesting concept would be developing emulators for Linux On iPod. Then you could play them ON your iPod.

Probably won't happen for a long time, though.
# 5 Re: Emulators running on iPod
would the other computer need itunes to recognize it?
or would it jus automatically recogize the ipod as a external hard drive
# 6 Re: Emulators running on iPod
no it would recogize it as an external hard drive and you will be able to acess with no problems.
# 7 Re: Emulators running on iPod
ud have to have it set as a hard-disk
# 8 Re: Emulators running on iPod
it might not run efficiently seeing as the ipods drive is only lilke 3200RPM or something and a normal desktop HD is 7200RPM

I don't know about the feasability of it, but the legality of emulation is really a gray area.
# 10 Re: Emulators running on iPod
iTunes just syncs your music with the iPod. It has nothing to do with the computer recognizing it.

But if he is going to be using nes or old saga emulators it should be fine. I watch movies that are on my ipods harddrive on my computer, and if i can do that then there should no prob..

If anyone does it, tell us...This is pretty cool...
If someones installes Cherry OS on a HDD(iPod) and run it on a PC, that'd be really cool. :P
# 13 Re: Emulators running on iPod
Are there any plugins for playing PSF, NSF or SPC-files on your iPod then? Ive searched but didnt find any. It would be pretty neat to have all that music stored in its original form and emulated through a plugin.

I wouldn't worry about the speed of the HD as posted above. A rom (especially a NES rom) is so small, there will be zero problems with HDD speed.

Someone played world of warcraft off his h320!
(the thread is somewhere in the misticriver forums)
