I have a 1G iPod and like it. I also have an extra 3G wired remote, the one with the pins on the side of the headphone plug.

Is it possible to modify this remote to work with the 1G iPod? That is, what happens if I simply "cut off" the sidepin connector?

(Yes, I know I can buy the old remote on eBay. But if I can mutilate UL listed hardware, all the better...)
