iPods to school?

How many of you take your iPods to school for on the bus? I can't, not that i would want to.. We have a few bad kids that i know would steal it (if they even knew what it was lol)
I only take my cd player on the bus, it was a pretty good deal for thirty. Anyways, i just want to know if yall take your ipods to school and where you keep them during hours.
Thanks,
AcM

well if you do bring maybe you can get a case for it or something that doesn't advertise that it's an iPod...for example I have a body glove PDA case for mine...if you look at it you would never know it was an iPod...as compared to just my iskin...which pretty much screams iPOD! If I were to bring mine to school I would bring it everywhere I go, my backpack comes with me everyone so that works well for me, but I know not everyone wears a backpack.

I think that it was a mistake to tell people that i had one, they might have told the people at my school who take an intrest on pawning precious mp3 players off.. lol maybe ill start taking it to school, when i get a bit older...

I take it to school on public transit. I keep it in my backpack which NEVER leaves my sight! I also have other expensive stuff in my backpack, so I'm sure to always keep it with me. Also, I use regular old headphones and keep the unit in my bag or pocket and out of sight.

Do you have a lock on your backpack for all your expensive stuff? cause i might consider it if my pack was locked.

# 5 Re: iPods to school?
No, I just keep it on me at all times and never let it out of my sight. Are you in highschool? I know some schools don't let you have your bag in the class. If you have no way of keeping your bag with you, I wouldn't buther with a luggage lock. They're pretty easily broken into.

I shall be bringing mine to school next year. Since I wont have PE next year I wont have to worry about it being stolen while its in the locker. As long as its with me itll be safe.

I'm in the UK and take mine to school everyday, it's been fine. Im in 6th form (thats the year/grade before university) i take it on the walk to school, it keeps my occupied and my teachers are pretty relaxed about me using it in class if i'm just getting on with my work. There are some kids in the school who wouldn't say no to it if it (my ipod) was all alone but i just keep it in my pocket or in my rucksack and don't let it out of my sight. I've got it insured as well just to be sure but still don't want it stolen.

Yeah, im thinking about getting it insured.
I have a black gba sp with a black leather case and i leave it in my locker. I doubt that anyone would even know how to break into the PE locks anyway, lol

Taking a iPod to school can be a risky business![P]I myself have been in the situation of bringing a iPod to school. I wanted to not only listen to the music on the bus, but show it to all my mates that not able to see it out of school hours. In the end I was finally persuaded by my mother against the idea. For example a lot of people will want to have have one. They are soo small, that they are the perfect item to steal. I would advise you not to take it to school

Why have something so tiny and portable if you don't take it places with you??! Considering that 5 days a week are spent at school, I could never leave it at home. I just have it in my pocket all of the time.. except when I let my friends use it. I guess everyone knows I have one, because of the headphones. You see the white headphones at my school fairly often though.. quite a few other people have iPods too.
Sypher at 2007-11-15 15:24:41 >
# 14 Re: iPods to school?
Sypher's got the idea...why have an extremely portable devide that you payed a lot for, and keep it at home? I'm in grade 10, and my ipod is almost always with me in my pocket. Whenever I have PE class, I just hide it in my locker, besides I don't show off my ipod, so only my close friends know I have one so far(just got it a week or so ago). I'm not scared to bring it to school because I can adequately defend myself if someone were to try and beat me up for it...I weightlift and I'd say I'm stronger then most people in my grade.

Ok. Im not going to bring my iPod to school untill it is a few years old.
(I know its off topic, but...) For my cd player i cut a few holes in the hood of my sweatshirt so i can sneak the iPod earbuds up through it. The cd player is in my pocket so all i do is put my hands up to my ears and bam! Right straight out of another boring lesson.

I bring my iPod everywhere I go. You just have to take good care of it and don't leave it lying around. What's the point of having a PAD if you can't enjoy it whenever, wherever you want?

# 21 Re: iPods to school?
I agree with Darrell. What's the point of having it if you're not going to use it? I think if you have a different pair of headphones, no one has to know you have an iPod. But, I'll pose one more question. I'm going to Washington, D.C. with my school this week, and I don't know whether to bring my iPod or not. We're staying in a Holiday Inn for 3 nights, and I'd have to leave my iPod there during the day. I have a 20GB. Should I bring it?

i take mine to school with me WHICH IS WHY I GOT IT!!!:p
I actually carry it in a sock:D because i'm waiting for my case to arrive.
One of the first things that i did was swap the headphones on my cd player for the earbuds. One because my headphones have better base response and two, so no one will ever know that i have a 'Pod:D. The stock earbuds are still sitting in the box, unopened:D
Tris1 at 2007-11-15 15:37:49 >

The stock earbuds are crap. The plastic off the wiring has came off on both mine and my brother's earbuds.

Anyways, yeah I take mine to school as well, one of the reasons I bought it. I get too distracted if I don't have it on, as the Common Room can get noisy.

yea, take it everyday to school, (im in year 13 last year of school), but before the ipod, i used to take my MD as well (2 years ago), my school is fairly small, so there arent really many big brutes (my school by the way is the one where bekham's kids goes to (well often they jus dont come, and where bekam's affair chick veronica loose studied) but yea, theres no problem, what concerned me most was gettin nicked on the journey back home (1.5hours!!! so music is NECESSARY!) during the journey home i just kept it in my pocket, im not really afraid of gettin it stolen, but i do act smartly, its best to use ur ipod accordinly to the situation, e.g if ure walkin down the streer, and u see a group of thugs, its best not to take the ipod out at that moment! (and best not to look nervous or scared)- Remember, if u ever get confronted, fight back verbally, make noise, the more attention u create the more the villans will back off, if anything.. just run away to anyplace public ;)

I take mine to school, to work, working out, everywhere i go. If you your ipod gets stolen from you at school, or anywhere in public with out you being beat up for it, you probably deserve to get it stolen. If you spend money on an ipod you are 100% aware of it's presence and so are other. If you let you guard down on this precious thing you deserve to get it stolen.

# 32 Re: iPods to school?
I've had my iPod for nearly a year and take it with me whenever I can (remember). Usually just if I'm walking back from my house for lunch I'll take it and listen to it in the afternoon. I'd like to think at the age of 16, I'm responsible for my possessions, and it rarely leaves my pocket/sight anyway.
If you're too paranoid about losing it then you won't enjoy it half as much.

btw, locks attract more attention to your property than actual protection they provide to it.
Unless you're talking about a big fist sized lock, which I doubt you are.

Actually if you really think about, keeping you iPod in your pocket isn't all that much safer if your scared for it's safety, because i don't know about you but beeing in high school and even when i was in grade school i know me and my friends liked to horse around. So what if you're carring you pod and one of your friends doesn't know you have it on you and pushes you or kind of jumps on you back and you fall and it breaks

I have no problems with bringing my 'Pod to school. It stays in my pocket for all periods other than gym, where I lock it in my gym-locker, then stand in front of said locker until the gym teacher tells me to leave, then the gym teacher locks the gym doors. Pretty secure there I believe.

Uhm...
I've got a little problem. On Sunday, our class is going to a "school trip" for a week.

I've got my iPod last week...so, now i'm very careful with it.

I'm sleeping in a room with 5 persons 4 well known, the other, hmm, I know him, but only a bit...the other time of the week we are travelling around with the whole class...on evening, we're going to a small lake (<- the lake makes me nervous...) and then back to the hotel...

But that's not the problem. I'm feared that in the night someone could come and steal it (oh my god, i'm paranoid :D)...

Some classmates know that I've an iPod, but I don't trust them...I also don't know them very well...

And there are some other pupils in this hotel...

Oh my god, please help me to decide if I shall take him with me...

(sorry for my bad english...)

Take it with you, if the teachers are suggesting that you bring a music device, say it is the only one you have. Also, to keep you from worrying in the middle of the night, give it to a teacher every night and have them keep it safe after you nicely explain that it is worth hundreds of dollars.

During this past year I took my Dell Axim X5 to school every day, as well as on many school outings, band trips, etc. I never had a problem with theft or damage, even though the Dell would sometimes literally get passed around the classroom for everyone to play with.

When school starts this fall I'll have no reservations about bringing my iPod, even though I'll probably only use it as a portable hard drive for moving large Final Cut Pro projects around.

I've found that you get far more enjoyment out of electronic devices if you're not afraid to use them and take them everywhere. When you consider that gadgets such as PDAs and iPods have limited practical lifespans thanks to obsolescence and the finite lives of expensive rechargeable batteries it makes sense to get as much use out of them as you can, while you can.

I bring mine and an iTrip and play it though a little radio in my locker in the morning. So theres an entire hall of me and my friends (and anyone else who wants to enjoy) listening to classic rock. Teachers don't really care.

# 48 Re: iPods to school?
Right. I've taken my iPod to school for 182 straight school days. It was always in my pocket. Every time I would leave class I would always feel my pockets to see if everything was there. Yeah, I know I am really paranoid about my iPod, but it's like my essential everyday utility. I have never had anyone try to steal it. I try to limit the people who know I have it. Even in gym class when I folded my pants with my iPod in it . . . I locked it up in my locker. I was always the first one in the locker room so when everyone came in I was all ready to go. On the bus it's no big problem, I have only got a couple of responses. I just hate when people bug you when you are listening to music, but whatever. It really attracts girls if you whip it out though. :D I have it raped in my xSkn case which is also in a MacClear case so it was always protected in my pockets.

The problem with an iPod (well, problem...) is that when you've got the earplugs in, almost everyone knows you've got an iPod. When I was in the train last week, I heard a few bussinessmen saying 'wow, everyone has an iPod in these days!'. So even if you keep it in your pocket out of sight, most people will know you have one when you've got the earplugs in.

But hey, I take my iPod to school anyway :)

Way to nail the kid that stole it. That's my favorite story thus far. I'll be taking mine everyday. On tests, on the way, with an iTrip when my chemistry teacher (I'll be taking AP, which means I have the same one,) turns on the radio to make us feel peaceful. That'll be great. I'll certainly use it about 6 hours a day. All 15 sweet gigs. And I'll have to stop taking naps during class, so kids don't take the opportunity to steal my iPod. Jerks. I like napping. I'll be buying some Grado Labs. A: because the sound they give beats ANYTHING I've ever heard and B: They could just go to a cd player, not a $300 iPod. Also, I'll be putting the earbuds with my cd player. That way, people try to steal that, and I'll hunt them with a compound bow. Because cd player thieves should be hunted with a compound bow.

Whatever happens, happens, but if it was stolen from me, what my parents would do to me would be worse than anything some punk could do ;).
Anyway, I dont exactly like the idea of taking my ipod to school only to risk it being stolen, but it is a PORTABLE player...
The thing is, alot of people may think that if it is out of sight you would be ok, but around my school, ive known people to lose expensive phones (like the sonyericsson P900, samsung e700 etc) because they have been searched by a group of #######s. Knowing the people that I do, my 'pod will probably be safe but i still dont want to risk it.

I don't ride the bus to school, my mom drives me. and as far as carying it around with me? I always cary my bag with me at all times any way. And like someone said, if you don't advertise to the whole school population that you have one, you shouldn't run into the problem of stealing. I don't think i'll bring it to school with me too often, unless i'm aloud to listen to it in all of my art classes, because other wise iw ouldn't have time to listen to it...besides lunch. But whatever you chose to do, my advice is to hide it and use normal headphones when you are afraid of people finding out and stealing it

I might take it sometimes, but even though I let a bunch of my friends know, I'm gonna act as if i never got one, maybe somepeople will believe me. The less people that know the better. I'll probably get a case, and leave it in my pocket, cause i can always tell if I'm missing something.

I listen to mine on the way to school, listen to it during my breaks and lunch, listen to it during some classes (the best part is the teacher doesn`t mind  ), and on the way home from school. Usually by the end of the day, I have used up most of a full-charged battery (my school ends late). I have no problems with everyone knowing I have it, as no one in my school would ever steal something from somebody else except maybe for food (no, it`s not a school for the mentally ill...).

Why would somebody at your school steal your ipod? It's a fellony, and it's not _that_ expensive. Nobody at my school would ever steal something! I might add that i go to a private school, so people got money.
If you get robed in a dark street (highly unlikely) they stell all you have anyway. Have had my p800 for over 1.5 years now, and nobody stole it yeat.

Btw; why do all of you guys get a ride with your mom to school? Here (Norway) that would be quite extrordanery ^^

Must add to all those worried about their iPod getting stolen; keep it on your person, don't flash it around too much, and just listen in peace. Was great for when I finished my last exam of the semester, and had to wait around for 40 minutes for my lift home.

Took my 'pod to school today, and it was fine. I've had three mobile phones; my current one is worth quite a bit, as was my previous one. Never had a problem, and the only attempt to steal it was when one kid searched my bag in the change rooms whilst I was out playing sport. Stole a packet of gum, but I kept the phone on my person. At least he has minty fresh breath!

I always take mine to school. I see a few white buds around campus from time to time, and I actually share it with some of my best friends. The only time I'll leave the 'Pod in my locker (perks of being a music major, you get a locker in college) is when it's time for marching band. I've never had a problem taking Eleanor on campus.

I plan on using my ipod at school. my reasons. i took my iPaq to school everyday last year used it daily(my H.S. has wireless T3) and no one ever thought about taking it. the reason, we have over 15 laptop carts(20 centrino 1.5's), school issued tablet pc's for some teachers and students. projectors with smartboards(interactive whiteboards), and a heck of a lot other things to take. my school was the intel model school of 04 and hitachi beta school of 03. if someone wanted to make a quick buck, they would go into a classroom during lunch and take a tablet or two. thats my take on this.

Wow, your teacher really sucks! When I went to summer school in Middle & High school, the teachers were always encouraging; they wanted to see us get the Hell out of there and be successful so we wouldn't have to do the same classes again.

I am thinking about taking it to school now, because I didn't really see the point, as I walk to the bus and home with 2 of my friends, probably should concentrate more in class anyway, and I play sport at lunch.

But, if I needed to bring it to school I would, just stick it inside my school blazer pocket and dump it in my locker during lunch break and recess.

No big deal really, just choose not to bring it as I don't think it is worth the risk for 5 mins of play time between classes.

I only take mine with me, when I'm forced to go to school by bus, because my dad needs my car. If i'm using the car I got my burned album of the week and so there's no need to take the iPod with me. If I'm going by bus I take the iPod, it makes the long ride a lot more comfortable, without all this noise around you.

Tuck in your shirt? In primary school, perhaps, but definitely not in high school. Or, rather, not yet; the ever increasing size of the iron fist that are some of the teachers in this school may cause it to fall.

Got the same math teacher now for both my Geom. & Trig and Intro. Calculus classes, so it's 'pod time everytime. Same for my Digital Media class, and English, if I'm discreet with the earbud placement.

Thy Doth Speaketh the truth Muzakman, I am actually very glad I got my first real music player AFTER high school (I'm in the states. :( [the frown is thanks to the current president.] I know that when I brought my brother's cd player security would always tell me to put it away etc. At my university they don't give a damn although I do usually turn it off whenever the proffessor (Did I spell that last word right?) starts talking out of respect for him or her. Yeah. I think it's better this way though. The immature kids had to deal with mean high school teachers, and then when (and if) they ever reach maturity, they can enjoy the freedom of college. If high school was like college, nothing would ever get done.

I never listen to my music during class, because I actually enjoy my classes! It's nice to be able to do whatever though. I'm in California, and wear sandles every day, and skate all around campus, and bring my skateboard into class, and no one cares. Much better than high school. Most of the teachers are halfway intelligent too, which is a nice change.

I'm not a huge fan of our president either... But that's another thread...

I walk around with my iPod $400, my TI 83+ silver $130, and my jump drive $30 and have for more than a year and nothing has happened. Most people are too stupid to even know what an iPod or a graphing calculator is.

Well, unfortunately for me, there are people who are in my school who know what a iPod is, and would probably steal one of someone if they had the chance. As you probably know by the info under my name I live in essex, uk. Meaning if I left the slightest hint of something expensive, I would probably be mugged. Fortunately for me, knowing the people that I do, they have backup etc so I dont get any hassle. But it still ####es me off that other people get mugged. No one should have to be in the position of being assulted for something as pathetic as a phone.

So #### anyone who has stolen a phone/iPod etc of someone by intimidation etc.

Honestly, there is nothing lower in my eyes than a theif trying to make a couple of quid.

Sure, I'll bring mine to school but like other posters said, not advertising it as an iPod. I get enough attention carrying around my Sony CLIE NX73 PDA with the bright color screen and its camera. I'm starting college in the fall and of course my iPod is coming. I bus/walk to school and back and have some schedule gaps, so I -have- to have my music with me. With old mp3 players (not a pod but if I had it, it would have been the same) I didn't have a problem taking them to school and just keeping them in my pocket. I knew all the kids in my classes and spent lunches in the art or english rooms so I wasn't too worried about it getting nicked.

I took my player to my old work (a movie theater) where there were a lot of teenagers making not a lot of money : ) and people often had things stolen from their locker. But my messenger bag had a hole in the lining so I would just slip it underneath when I worked.

If you can just get your concealed handguns license. Also try and bring a tazer and some pepper spray with you everywhere. That way you can put a bullet in his/her kneecap and spray their eyes. When they're on the ground holding their legs and eyes just walk up and take the ipod back. When they're screaming at you just give them a reason to scream. Zap them with your tazer until they #### their pants then calmly walk off and call the police on your cell phone letting them know that a criminal is laying on the ground covered in #### and blood.

I have to catch the bus to and from school, its like a half hour ride.

I'm ognna really hate not having my music, but I DONT want my iPod to get stolen or broken.

My mom said that I can take her cheapish CD walkman (she doesnt ever use it). It's nice of her to offer, and I think I will probably take that.

If I really want to take my own playlist, I could always make the playlist on iTunes, then burn it onto CD. Thats the beauty of iTunes!

I take it to school everyday. I don't have a problem at all really (just alot of people ask if they can use it and what not, and of course I say no), I just usually keep my iPod in my pocket at all times. You should be fine.

I take my iPod to school every day. Then again, I ride to and from school with my boyfriend and his little brother, and they know that if they mess with my iPod, heads will roll. The rest of the day, I keep my iPod safe in my purse, and I take that everywhere. I am so paranoid.
(My boyfriend has a 15-in. PowerBook G4 and he carries it in its laptop bag everywhere around school, even if he's asked to deliver something to another teacher. We are both paranoid!)
Nobody at school is really impressed by my iPod, though. It's almost like I'm preaching to the deaf.

I bring my 'Pod Mini to schools on all days except PE days (it's kinda inconvinient). Its kind of useful as there is a 20minute bus/train ride from school everyday and I need my Pod Mini to keep me company.

I know one other guy in my school has a 20GB 3rd Gen, so I'm not too worried about being mugged. It's pretty safe here unless you go around advertising the 'Pod, most people don't know what it is. I walk around with my Sony Ericsson T610, my thumbdrive and my 'Pod and so far, nothing has happened yet.

Next year, when my school introduces tablet PCs to my school, I'm going to bring my iBook to school instead. At least I know I'm safe around with so many Wintel users anyway.

well, i'm happy to live in switzerland. in my school (i'm in the last year now, since yesterday :-)), it is no problem to take it with me. if i don't use it, i just leave it in the backpack.

just sometimes, if i have gym and i know that it would be alone somewhere where just everyone can come in, i leave it at home.

but i'm happy not to have to worry like some guys in the US...

I bring my iPod to school everyday. First couple of days I was excited and showed it off a little but didnt let anyone I didnt trust and wasnt a good friend listen to it. I carry it in my pocket and listen to it. I carry it everywhere now and normally always am listening. There are some problem people in my school but there is no way they could get it from me. Its always in my pocket or no more than a foot away from me in a friends hands. Only people I worry about are teachers and most of them just say put it up or are jealous and wanna check it out.

I take my iPod everywhere, including school, very consistently listening to it, I am kind of specualtive of who can browse through it seeing as it gets scratched so easily, I have it in my pocket for every class minus PE, and I'm fine with that. Which reminds me I forgot my radio transmitter on the bus today...but aI have a nice bus driver, though. :D

LOL in Boston I took the Subway a lot, put on the earbuds, and counted how many people had white earphones on. Thay ranged from little 4 year olds to very old senior men, my record high for that was on a two-part train with 13 iPod users :wow:

I have an okay case (waiting for those sweet iSkins to come out for my kind of iPod...) and a purse. Yes, ladies have it a little easier when it comes to toting iPods than gentlemen do. All we have to do is stash ours inside our purses. It's much better to have a candy-pink purse (like mine) because then NO GUY wants to touch it, but any handbag will do.

Those of you who have considered putting a lock on your bags are probably pretty friggin thick. A lock simply advertises the fact that you have something pricey in your bag, and if your would be theif decides they don't want to open it there and then, they can just pick the bag up and walk off - five minutes with a pair of scissors or a knife will have any bag open.

Seriously tho, I take my iPod into school on a regular basis, and nothing bad has happened to it. We have to wear Blazer/Jackets most of the time, so I figure I may as well use one of the many volimunous pockets. Which also handily double up as a pretty much scratch proof case <like silk or something>. The advantages you get by taking it in, to me at least, outweigh the <pretty minimal unless you attend some kind of Mafioso Funded school> risks. Obviously, if uniform includes Knives for "self-defence", then rethink it, but for most of us, it should be fine.

I always take mine to school, but I don't use the stock headphones.
I usually leave it in my locker.
But today, I wish I had my iPod. We had a bomb threat (some idiot e-mailed the principal and said he was going to blow up the school,) so I had to wait out on the soccer field for four hours. All I was thinking about was how my iPod was in my locker and how I wished I had it to listen to.
From now on, I think I'm gonna keep it in my pocket during the school day.

I go to a private girls' school where most people are quite rich and stealing isn't really a problem. I've seen at least 10 people with iPods at my school who freely wear the stock earbuds and carry the Pods in their hands so I think I'll be quite safe at school. I've lost my wallet at least four times before and people have always handed it in, even when I had quite a bit of money in there.

I'll be taking my iPod to school everyday because I have a 20min train ride + 15 minute walk to school.

I take it to school. because I go by bike. It goes faster when you listen to music...

But the main reason why I bring it to school is because I am at the last bench of the class and nobody can see wether or not you are listening to music.

1. You just put the Ipod in you pocket.
2. You put your ears from you pocket to your neck, but at your neck you take the ears trough your sleeve untill you reach the pulse (image1)
3. you sit with your ellbow on your bench and your hands against your ear and nobody will see your listening to music :).

long live the smallness of Ipod :D

I got my Discman stolen last year, which was why I got my iPod.

I know the risk when I bring my iPod to school...It just isn't worth paying all that money if I just leave it at home all the time.

I always have it either in my hand, or clipped on my waist now...I can't see it getting stolen really..unless I put it in my locker than my locker gets broken into, but I don't usually ever put it in my locker so..I'm confident it won't. But a lot of people certainly do like it...Since it is a rare item at my school. I only know of about 5-6 people who have them. Compared to hundreds of Mini-Disc/Discman/Tiny Mp3 players.

My 3g was stolen out of my back pack in a LOCKED lockeroom locker. There was some kind of vulnerability of the specific locker I had that made it easy to force open. I came back from cross country practice and found the locker door open (with the lock still locked on the door!) and my iPod gone.

I was so unbelievably pi$$ed and then pretty depressed having to walk to school every day without my 'pod (I know it's pathetic.) Infact, I was so upset, that my parents decided to step in and buy me a knew 4G 20 gig!!!!

I thought like that too, until my iPod was stolen. You just don't want to accept that your iPod could be stolen and that because it is so expensive there is a pretty high (but still relatively low) chance it will be stolen.

I use it as often as I can. I mean I paid money (a good amount too) to use a small portable music player so I could bring it everywhere I go ... and so I DO bring it everywhere I go.

Extra security measures are a good idea if you want to take it to school; I recently began trials, bringing mine a couple days a week, and it's working well, but I am very cautious about the thing -- it never leaves my person.

What you have to remember before you say that people who lock theirs up are paranoid or stupid is that not everyone lives in a nice little middle-class haven where everyone has them and no one would ever think of stealing them. I'm not knocking the havens, just saying...

I sometimes leave mine in my locker, wrapped up in a jumper.
