ipod shuffle skipping songs

If your iPod Shuffle is set to "shuffle" mode, it just might not be getting around to those songs. When in shuffle mode, it will not play every song once before repeating songs. How long are you listening to the shuffle before you determine it isn't playing some of the songs? Is it in shuffle mode? Did you make sure those songs actually got copied to the shuffle? How many songs do you have on your shuffle? Those questions will help. Thanks!

I'd check that it's not the song files that are at fault. I've not read the tech specs for the shuffle yet, but is it possible the tracks that won't play on the shuffle are encoded at too high a rate?

I saw a blurb somewher that said if they are AAC files encoded on something than iTunes then they might not play on the Shuffle.

me again: still having the problems. it seems to be affecting just mp3s, not ACCs or any of your fancy-pants formats...

i've just tried putting Feeder's Echo Park album on my Shuffle, and it's playing three or four of the tracks, but not any of the others. they're all 160kbps mp3's...perhaps my Shuffle has different musical tastes to me...

anyway, you got problem on encoding files.

AIFF, other AAC than in itunes, more than 320kbps --> will NOT play.

ipod shuffle has limited encoding capacity. it can be 8 ~ 320 kbps.

I have the same problem even after having everything reformatted and updated. I found it kept on skipping some of my high bit rate MP3s, especially those with VBR encodings. It does not constantly skip one track, it does this randomly. But none of the AAC tracks seem to be affected.

I'll report this problem to apple.

I just experienced the problem with a few songs, and I noticed that all the songs are ones with non-alphanumeric characters such as periods and parentheses--particularly, early on in the filename. I looked at the short filenames via command prompt, and it seems neither the short nor long filenames on the shuffle match up with those in the library. Perhaps this is the problem?

I thought I had a problem with a song skipping, but turned out the actual file was imcomplete and I never knew it. Go figure.

Can someone post some instruction on that. I am totally confused. DO I need to uninstall itunes, too?

My shuffle just skipped over two songs. Both were purchased from the iTunes store (protected AAC).

I'm gonna try the updater. :(
