Alright listen VERY closely!

A. Yes, if you totally blow out the hard drive, it will get rid of your songs.
B. Yes you can upload your songs back. I'm very happy to help.

Put the iPod on 'manually manage songs' before you delete info from your PC (Edit>Preferences>iPod - while it's connected). You can transfer songs back to the PC via #1 in my sig.

Sharepod, ipod agent, ipod music liberator.

All will put music back on the computer.

Here's my tutorial.

1. Hotsink your iPod for the last time, get everything on it that you want.
2. Blow out your hard drive and all that stuff.
3. Install your iPod disc that came with your iPod.
4. Configure your iPod and everything that the disc says.
5. Download iTunes (if you haven't already)
6. Download iPodAgent
7. Transfer from iPod to your Hard Drive using iPodAgent
8. Put the whole iPodAgent folder that you saved into iTunes,

VOILA! You've got all your songs. If you have any more questions, just email me or post here.
