reformat doesnt help.

No one has offered help yet, so I figured I would try again. I have reformated my older ipod, 10 gig Toudhwheel, becuse it was acting funny randomly. It is at the point now where it won't play music at all. It will go to the playlist, I can pick a song, but then it does't play them. The play indicator is on, you know the triangle as opposed to the pause symbol, but it never gets going. If i press play/pause again, it will lock up, and need to be reset. It works fine as a HD. Mounts fine to the computer. Checking the HD with the ipod HD scan comes up ok. The music is in it, because I used some software to let me look at the hidden folders. Seems as if the iPod cannot connect between the playlist and the music files. Some type of directory issue maybe? I am not a computer guru, so this is a guess. Any suggestions, or do I have an expensive portable HD?
