Formatting iPod problems

I'm formatting my iPod right now, and it has been over 45 minutes. It keeps on doing it over and over again. My iPod says not to disconect, but should I?

If you disconnect, you run the risk of upsetting the firmware, so I strongly advise against doing so.

However, if the process seems to have stalled and nothing is happening... you may want to try it.

If it still keeps that up after several hours, then I'd say you have no choice...

I disconnected it, but now it's not recognizing it. It never did.

Does it recognize it for a second or two?

Mine will connect, and then it will disconnect automatically and the Plug-n-Play icon in the taskbar will disappear...

It recognized it for the format, but the iPod icon never shows up on iTunes.

Some people have found success reinstalling iTunes, give that a try...

This is happening to a lot of people, including me. Yesterday, I went through the same routine you did. I got the "waiting for iPod" for over three hours... So I just disconnected and re-connected. It worked. =)

I've tried both usb 2.0 and firewire for the setup of my ipod. When it gets to format it does what it has for many and just says waiting for ipod. My ipod is recognized as a storage device and isn't recognized in itunes. I've tried restarting my computer and also reinstalling the software. Is there anyway this problem can be resolved?

Your Computer is not recognizing the iPod or wait, it is recognizing your iPod but won't show up in iTunes because you need to format your iPod, thats what happened to me, I was like WTF, then I thought, I didn't format my iPod yet, and I know that you can format your iPod using the CD that came with it, so I just plugged my iPod anywayz and then inserted the CD and it knew that I have my iPod connected, so it said, I need reformatting or something with my iPod and then it took like 3 seconds to do it and after that, it said restarting/rebooting iPod or w/e and that took like 10 seconds. I have USB 2.0 connected via PCMCIA Card if that helps. So, if your iPod doesnt appear on iTunes, it probably needs reformatting. So, just plug ur iPod to ur Computer and then insert the CD that came with it, and it should just solve the problem. That's if you havent reformatted your iPod offcourse, and if you dont know if ur iPod has been formatted or not, just go to......

- Main Menu on your iPod
- Settings
- About
- Scroll all the way down or find where it says format, and if it has the word format in there, then its been formatted, and if not, then its not.
