Firmware problems...

I know it's a long shot asking for help on such a traumatic problem... but here goes.

I recently bought my iPod and the included software was the 3.0.1 update. I quickly downloaded the newest version and ran the updater. Problem is, the updater crashed about 95% through the upgrade. The iPod still functions fine. I can access every menu and play games, etc. Only trouble is the fact that iTunes and iPod Updater won't recognize the iPod, since their detection is apparently based on the build of the firmware.

I can transfer music via 3rd party programs but it's not my preferred method, and I'd really like to have a fully functional iPod. I've already called Apple and they've sent out a dispatch so I'll either get it replaced or just get my money back (I could use a new camera). Before I do anything drastic, are there any third party programs that could help me restore the firmware or is there any way to get iPod Updater to mount my iPod?

Thanks,

Doody.
