i tried to research my problem before posting and found some information but i am somehow missing something...

when plugged into my powerbook, my ipod goes into disk mode but won't show up anywhere on the computer...on the desktop, in disk utility when i try to initialize it, etc. i'm trying to restore it and install the ipod updater since my ipod is windows formatted (this wasn't a big problem before but i feel like its the reason my ipod is screwed up now).

any suggestions on what to do? the ipod itself seems to be doing what its supposed to i.e. being in disk mode or whatever, it just is nowhere to be found on the computer itself, when i try to restore it using the updater it starts and then says the ipod doesn't have the correct structure, but i can't get at it in disk util. so i am very frustrated. i need my music! any help is awesome, thanks.
