installation of ipod with new version of itunes already installed

i have just bought a new 20gb ipod for the 1st time. i have been using itunes for a while without an ipod on my pc , and the other day upgraded it to a newer version.

however today when i tried to install my ipod with the cd rom that some s with it , installation could not be completed as "a newer version on itunes was detected".

what can i do about this. can i revert back to the old version without uninstalling it? if i do uninstall it will i lose all my songs?

The CD should still install all the other bits and bobs you need even though it doesn't install the older iTunes.

Try connecting your iPod and see what happens, you shouldn't need to downgrade.

If it's not working try downloading the latest updater from Apple,

here (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/)

All you should have to do to set up an iPod is have iTunes installed, connect the iPod to your PC, let Windows recognize it as a removable drive and then run the updater to format it. No CD required.

PS Before running the latest updater make sure that any older updaters are uninstalled from your PC, there have been reports of conflicts between this new updater and the older ones. In your add/ remove programs have a look for iPod Updater, it should have a date on it, the latest one is 2004-11-15.
