Retag - sync issue

Hi,

I use itunes on win xp to sync my PC with the ipod. I do the sync manually.

I modified tags on some mp3 files (without changing filenames) and added these files to the itunes library. These files exist on my ipod already.

Next, I did a drag and drop from itunes library to my ipod. I basically ended up having 2 copies of all these songs. Does changing id3 tags tell ipod its a different song or am I doing something wrong?

Thanx, Kram

i know that when on auto-sync, if you change the slightest thing about a track, say, the artist tag, the comment, the voume setting, the album art, anything except playcount and ratings, it will transfer the entire song file over the the ipod, replacing the previous file. i dont use manual mode, and havent really tested it much, so i cant help you there.

this would be a major fault in the software design if there is no way around this file duplication...

The simple work-around would be to browse the iPod's music library via iTunes and remove the duplicate.

But it gets really difficult both from an ipod memory perspective and from the manual effort required. I have almost 2500 songs on the ipod.

Is there no one who has had a similar problem and found a solution?
