How to delete the files from computer and keeping them in the iPod properly

Hi guys,

I want to remove the songs from my computer because I just have 30Gb in my computer and 40Gb in my iPod.

What's the best way to remove the songs from the computer and keeping them in the iPod? I've thought about burning some DVDs with the songs, and removing the "Auto Sync" option of the iPod. Is this enough?

And more important:

Will the songs in the DVD keep the songs' information (if I like them, comments, how many times I've heard them, album photo and so) and the playlists? The information is not in the mp3 files, so I guess that I should copy the iTunes music library file (is that information there?)

After deleting the songs from the HDD. If I want to add a new album, I should sync the iPod to iTunes. Can I do this without synching the whole library? (I shall loose almost everything). I know I can synch only some lists, but what about an album that is not included in any list?

Thanx in advance. I'm trying to save my music and my preferences, and would be horrible if I loose everything (I've been almost an slave of my iPod since I bought it: everyday I tag some files!)

iPod rules.

That should work fine, just make sure you burn a data disc(s) of your music files. This will retain the ID3 tags you have in your music files. The setting on the iPod you need is "Manually manage songs and playlists". This setting gives you full manual control over what songs exist on the iPod.

Yes, you should probably backup the two iTunes Music Library files as well. Ratings and Playcounts are stored there. I'm honestly not sure where iTunes stores Playlists.

As long as you're in the "Manually manage songs and playlists" setting you have nothing to worry about.
