Transferring files from an archos studio 10

i have an archos studio 10 and its starting to go, ive been looking for a new mp3 player and i have decided between a 20GB iPod and a 20GB iriver 320. i have heard both good and bad for each, not so much bad for the iPod, but i have a couple of questions. One, ive heard that ipods copyright songs and u can only use them on the iPod and iTunes is this true? my other question is i want to know if i can transfer my entire collection from my archos to an ipod? and if i can do this i will definiely be getting an iPod thanks

Not true. Probably what you heard was that songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store (via the iTunes application) can only be played in iTunes and on the iPod. This is true. The ipod supports the following digital music file types:
AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 (32 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, WAV, AIFF, Audible

You can't directly transfer them from the Archos onto the iPod, you'll need to transfer them from the Archos onto your computer first. Then you can import them into iTunes, and then from there onto your iPod.
