ipod turns off, dead battery, clock resets!

After my battery gets low, almost to the bottom and sometimes when the level is not all the way down, thw ipod turns off. When I tuen it back on, the apple logo appears for about 10 seconds and the ipod turns back on . The battery level is then empty AND the clock is reset. Nothing else is wrong with the pod except for the clock is reset to 1 Jan 2000. I don't get it. Has anyone else expierenced this too? Please help. The battery is only 6 mos. old also.

Also, when I turn the pod back on and reset the clock, the battery is low, but not all the way down. I can play about 30 more min of music. I think it might have to do with the back light. I have it set at 2 secs. Maybe that really drains the battery, but I don't know why it resets it.

Update:
I turned off the backlight and the ipod continues to reset the clock when the battery gets low.
