Does the option to manually manage music save to the iPod or only to iTunes?
I want to add some stuff she has, but I don't want to loose all my songs.

If I set my iPod to manual music management, then go to my friends house and hook it up to her PC, will the iPod remember that it is set to manual management, or will it auto-sync to whatever playlist may be on her PC?

Once the iPod is set to manual it will stay on that until you change it back to auto. Just don't auto sync with your PC once you do that or it will be erased. If you want to transfer it to your library, you can:- Use this method (http://www.ipodlounge.com/articles_more.php?id=5090_0_8_0_M)

-place the songs in a folder and drag them onto the iPod HD and when you connect to your PC, you can place the folder w/the songs into your music folder to transfer to iTunes.
