Is it "dangerous" to transfer 15GB of music to the iPod all at the same time?

Hello everyone-

My wife and I both have iPods, so we have them set to manual and don't keep any music on our computer -- we just transfer what we want onto our iPods and delete the music from the computer.

However, every so often I like to transfer all the music on my iPod to an external hard drive that I have for backup purposes. That way if anything ever happens to my iPod I don't have to re-rip all my CDs -- and I also get to keep my play counts and things like that.

Anyway, I did this last night and transferred my 15GB of music from my iPod to my external hard drive. When this process was complete I noticed that my iPod was VERY warm. I clearly overworked it in transferring such a large amount of files. Is this dangerous? Can I really damage the iPod by doing this, or is it safe?

Thanks in advance.

Not likely. The iPod's HDD spins when music is being transferred, so that would account for the warm iPod, as the HDD is spinning throughout the transfer. That is alright, it is quite common for iPods to become warm and many have done larger transfers (40-60GBs) and from what I understand, nothing resulted except a warm unit.. Unless the iPod is very hot, in which case you should give Apple a ring (1800-MY-APPLE), you and your iPod should be fine.. :)

Hope that helps,

Thanks. Better to be safe than sorry, so I figured I'd ask and find out for sure.

That's good to know.
