shuffle, then pick a song

Hi everyone.

New (and very happy) iPod owner here. I'm super impressed with this site, which has helped me make a bunch of decisions about which iPod to get, what accessories to buy, and how to get the most out of it.

Here's my question: I use the iPod mostly in shuffle mode. It's awesome to be able to select a Genre or Artist and just let it randomly play music. However, I've often said "I want to hear this particular song" by the artist or genre that I'm shuffling. When I scroll to that particular song, I lose my shuffling (IE: it says "playing song 1 of 1". After the song's over, the iPod doesn't move on to anything. I then have to restart my genre/artist shuffle.

So, is there any way to shuffle a genre/artist, then pick a particular song within that sub-group, and have it go back to randomly playing after it's finished playing my custom picked song? This isn't about queing songs (which I can do with on-the-go playlists). I just want to immediately go to the particular song and have the iPod go back to the shuffle afterwards.

Thanks for any help.

# 1 Re: shuffle, then pick a song
Welcome to the lounge. If you have set the iPod to shuffle it should stay on shuffle even if you select a song manually. I put my iPod on shuffle and switch songs or select a particular song and don't lose my setting. As long as there are a varity of songs selected they all continue to play.

If you select a song in albums but set it to genre then it will play that album or if it's only one song, then one song will play if no other songs are listed for that artist/album.

You will need to go back and select what you want to hear. If you play around with it you will see how it works on shuffle and what you need to do to hear the particular songs you want when you want.

On-the-Go seems the way to go when you want that special selection of songs then set to shuffle. It will only shuffle what is queued up to play.

:) I hope I made this clear.
