4G Ipod battery runs out when off
Hey guys,
I just bought a 4G Ipod from Buy.com. It seems that it has a battery problem. I get a maximum of 6 hrs. play time, and the worst part is that the battery discharges while it is off.
I've had it for about a week, I have done the battery break-in procedure as described in these forums (fully charging and only re-charging when it is completely dead).
I also have checked to make sure that all alarms are set to 'off'.
I charge this thing, use it for my commute, get home, lay it down, and when I go pick it up again, ITS DEAD!! The only way to keep the battery from dying is to leave it connected to the firewire cable on my PC.
It really sux, I have a 5GB 1st gen IPOD that gets more battery life than this.
I need some advice. Should I immediately return it for a replacement?

Since you've checked the obvious (alarm issue), it sounds like there is a problem with your iPod, and you'll need to get a hold of Apple for a replacement.
Although the iPod will use some battery while not in use, it shouldn't be discharging completely as quickly as yours is.

I came here to look if someone else had this problem and It seems like ! We bought our 4 Gb mini iPod less than a month ago. At the beginning, everything seemed fiine, but we noticed recently that ever turned off, it was discharging and that it doesnt seem to last 11 hours.
I am trying again to reproduce the problem before returning it back.
What have you done on your side ?
Where have you bought your mini iPod ? I bougth mine in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I have the 20GB Ipod not the mini, but I guess they can have the same issue.
I bought it online from Buy.com, and I'll be returning it back to them for a replacement.

That is not the best way to care for the iPod battery. You should only completely discharge the iPod battery say once per month. The rest of the time just top-up the battery every day.

Yeah, that is what I thought. I guess I read a bad thread. In any case, I don't think the battery should discharge while not in use.
