PLEASE HELP - iPod with guitar Amp.

Would using a guitar amplifier to listen to music, played by my iPod be a good idea. I would be using a Y cable and a dock. What would the sound quality be like.? Will it damage it?

If it's not a good idea, can you please recomend a powerful portable - ish speaker(s) to use. I need it to listen to at work with a lot of loud machine running.

Thanks for your Help.

You won't damage the iPod but the sound quality will be pretty poor - guitar amps are designed for, well, guitars and don't have the same frequency response as a good stereo. A good 100W portable stereo connected to the iPod would be much better !

If you must do this, remember to turn the volume on the iPod right down - the output from a guitar's pickups is extremely low in terms of current - if you whack the full output from the Pod through the pre-amp then you could blow some of the circuitry or the speaker cone.
