Sound Quality Among Ipods?
Is there one model among the mini, different generations, etc. that touts better sound quality/output than others? Just curious. Also, are there cases for minis to protect it if dropped?

They all sound the same as they use the same chips for the MP3/AAC decoding.
There are plenty of cases, look under mini below:

does anyone know if the rumor about an upgrade to 5GB for the Ipod Mini is true? I might wait to get my Mini if this pans out.

Just encode you music at a higher bitrate. Find a bit rate that sounds good for you and use that for your music. I've found that 192 is best for me... stuff I have that was encoded at 128 just sounds like crap now.
As for cases, I have the innopocket aluminum case, and it's excellent.
