How do I Configure 2 iPods?

My wife and I just bought two 40G iPods. I would appreciate some assistance in configuring two iPods using one computer.

I configured mine to work just fine, but after charging hers and connecting it, the computer doesn't recognize it. Here's a bit more that transpired:

1. I connect it and Updater indicates it needs new software. I update it and it tells me to reboot which I do.

2. I connect it after the computer starts up again, and iTunes doesn't recognize it.

3. I also have XPlay on the computer as an alternative to iTunes. When I tried to see if XPlay would recognize it, the software tells me the "drive is not formatted would you like to format it now?"

To note, at no point did I get an automatic configuration for the second iPod to name it something different from the first iPod I configured.

Thanks for your assistance.

Did you install the disk that came with the iPod - if not do so? Also, check 'my computer' and see if the iPod shows up and what drive letter it has.

To connect more than one iPod on the PC (http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs_more.php?id=2392_0_10_0_C).

Go to control panel>add/remove programs>iTunes and click on remove/change>and check the repair box then click next to repair iTunes.

I do have the software installed and I did turn off the auto synch feature. It recognizes the first iPod but not the second at all.

Do I have to install two versions? Would it simply overwrite the firsts ID and the only recognize the second?

What's next?
