New Guy, need some assistance
Good Evening everyone,
Im kinda an Old head with probably a simple question, at the time when napster was around and everyone was stealing music I was looking to export those somes on to an ipod, major music buff, but a woman at best buy said that I am not able to put the songs on to the ipod, with this info Im not sure if I will purchase, I have a large amount of songs I would like to put on the ipod, is there a simple answer to this question.
Someone please answer with detail, remember Im Old.

Welcome to the lounge. You can put any songs you want on the iPod, weither it be from napster, a cd or whatever with no trouble as long as it's in one of the supported formats (i.e. MP3, AAC, wav). The iPod has no way of knowing where the songs came from, so there's nothing to worry about when it comes to that.

Then why was the girl at Best Buy saying that the Ipod will not accept certain songs, she said something like each song has a foot print, and when songs are illegally download the ipod can tell the difference, is it the software on the computer that see the difference, still kinda confused.

I have about 100 or so songs that I got from a program like napster a while back, and they play on my iPod with no problem. I'm pretty sure there's not a program in the computer that can tell the differance either, I've used ipods for some time now and have yet to come across such a thing. I think the girl at best buy was told to say that, to try and stop music piracy.

Yeah any song u have and no matter where they come from u should just be able to tranfer the music into the iPod....I download from bearshare.com which is free and it work so easy that nothing is gonna stop me from doing that...I think the lady at best buy wanted you to buy a music software and download it so they can make money.

you need to put all your music into 1 file (for simplicity) then download and install itunes, once you have itunes installed and established you need to go to file ->add file to library then locate your music folder and highlight all the songs and put them into itunes. you can organize or anything afterwards. After you do all this and get an ipod, its as easy as plugging it in to w.e port you use (firewire Looks like a big usb, or a usb 2.0 port). Hope this helps.

Any MP3 will work on an iPod. The woman was either confused or trying to stop illegal downloading.

Basically the women in the shop is telling you not to download music, but if you want to you can, and it's in mp3, wav or/and acc it will work just fine.
