Can iPod screen be fixed?

I just got one of the original iPods as a hand me down. Works great except the screen fades in and out, sometimes I cant see anything at all on the display. It blinks but its still visible at first, but with each menu advance it gets worse. Can this be fixed?

Welcome to the lounge. You can first check the contrast and make sure it is properly set under settings. If it is then try restoring the iPod and see if that will fix the problem. This will set it back to its factory settings and erase whatever is on it.

Sounds like LCD burning out? weird problem, with each advancing menu it loses color..
